Replaced my clutch...NOW IVE GOT PROBLEMS.

I replaced the clutch in my 1984 Pontiac Firebird, 2.5L 4 cylinder 5speed.

Now when I have the car running with the car out of gear....when I let go of the clutch...just about all the way back the clutch will start to grab.

I don't have the car in gear....why would it want to grab the fly wheel?

I thought my hydrolic clutch assembly might have been the problem so I replaced it and it still has this problem.

What could be the problem?

I don't understand. The car trys to move when you let the clutch out in nuetral?
The clutch does the same thing when you push the pedal down and let it back up no matter what position the shifter is in. If it's trying to move in neutral it's a transmission problem.

When I have the clutch to the floor and the gear in neutral. It is normal.

However, when I let the clutch out in neutral, as the pedal returns to its normal position I hear the engine die down ever so slightly like its grabbing and the car will ever so slightly creep forward as if the clutch is engaging.

Here are the parts I replaced. I put a new clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and hydrolic clutch assembly.

The transmission is a bear to put into second when I first start the car up and run it down the road. I really have to muscle it in. As the car warms up and is on the road for a while it will return to somewhat normal.

Is my transmission going? or is it gone already. Do I have two separate problems or is it all connected?

any insight is greatly appreciated. This car is quickly getting annoying with this problem.

My car did the same thing. When i bought it the previous owner had just installed a new clutch and throw out bearing. The clutch would never disengage all the way. When we pulled the transmission and changed the clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing we found that the old throw out bearing had been installed wrong. Its smooth as butter now.

First of all the clutch and pressure plate do the same thing whether the trans is in gear or not. In nuetral when the clutch is let out the transmissions input shaft turns. Sounds like a problem inside the transmission. I have no idea what, never had that problem. Maybe a lack of fluid, maybe the bearing on the end of the input gear is binding up.
Are you sure it causes the car to move forward? Thats a whole different story if it dies the engine down and doesn't move the car.

You mentioned the throwout bearing. I noticed that bearing I replaced was slighty different looking in design. It has been a while since I last did this project but I think I remember the new one being a bit smaller????? Could this be causing a problem?
