Whats the factory stall speed of an L-69 converter???
I found in my April 1984 issue of Super Chevy where they were testing the then new '84 L-69 Camaro. It says it had a factory stall speed of 2400rpm with a 700-R4. Is this true? I find it kinda hard to believe since my LG4 stalls at around 1400. If its not true, what was the highest stall speed of a factory 700-R4 converter? THX

Do you know what car had the 2025rpm stall converter. Anything is better than this 1300-1400 crap.

actually, there most certainly were L-69's with automatics. A while back, my parents used to have an 84 T/A. 305 L-69 H.O. with an automatic. But my mom drove the car daily and wouldnt have a clue as to what stall speed is.

um actually the L69's only came with 5 speeds and a 3.73 posi, no automatics, if it was an auto it was an LG4 or a LU6

According to this page there are l69 autos. I think I have actually seen one in a local junk yard. https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml

Absolutely there were 5.0 litre H.O. automatics for 1984. I was eighteen an my older brother had bought one(z28) in 86. We took a few trips to Daytona Beach as I remember. An impressive car at the time. Had to have 3.73s with the uncontrolable tire smoke the z 28 generated. Also I remember that we were amazed at the good mileage it got. Damn, I wish he'd kept that car

Yes, actually most of the TA's in 1984 that were L69's were automatics. I own one. Also has a 3.73 posi rear as stated earlier.
L69 : ENGINE, GAS, 8 CYL, 5.OL, 4BBL, HO
MD8 : TRANSMISSION, AUTO 4 SPD, THM 700 R4

man, i have always heard that l69s were 5 speed only, i think the website is wrong.
In 84, they were about 60-65% auto IIRC. I'm seeming to recall that there were 30 some thousand 84 L69 Z28s, and about 19,000 were auto; the proportion was about the same for the Birds, total production of 84 L69 TAs was somewhere around 15,000 with about 8000 some odd being auto. But it's been a long time since I was buying these cars when they were new, and as they say, when you get old the memory is the second thing you lose.... damned if I can remember what the first one was supposed to be though...
