Non thirdgen tranny help

My friend is gonna swap a LT1 from an 88 Corvette into his 86 Monte Carlo SS. Anyways - the LT1 comes with the tranny from the vette. What tranny is this? I know this isnt exactly 82-92 f-body, but help me out here! thanks!

either car can come with a TH200R4, the pan is kinda shaped like Texas.

I know the monte has a 200r4, but I figured the vette would come with something more beefier? Like the 700r4 (the higher the num, the 'beefer', right - like 4L60 not as strong as 4L80, right?)...

Ummmmm, 88 Corvettes had L98's not LT1's, Corvettes had 700R4's until around 1993 then they had 4L60E's. The 4L80E just has two overdrives.

The 2004r is one of the sweetest shifting trannies after being built right, Honestly in my opinion every camaro should be changed over to one, but that's my opinion. That corvette has a 700r4 tranny in it. The 4L80E does not have two overdrives in it, that would make it a 5 speed transmission and it's not a 5 speed it's a 4 speed. Corvettes and camaros all have 700R4s, new vettes i'm not sure. I'm not sure if your going to have to change drivelines, but you might need to shorten or lengten the driveline. Even still which every tranmission you decide to work with be it the 2004r or the 700r4 both trannies can be killer tranies if built right.

According to the helms manual early 80's vetts had
TH200R4s. Although all the early 80's vetts Ive seen have had 700r4's, ehh go figure.

What do you mean "two overdrives". The 4L80E has these gear ratios: 2.48 - 1.48 - 1.00 - 0.75. I hope this helps.....

Well the issue is NO 1988 Corvette had an LT1 motor in it.....LT1 was in 1991 and Up motors.... 1988 corvette had the L98 with 700R4.... If Im not mistaken the Manual was a doug NAsh 4+3- 4 manual 3OD...If it has that Id run like hell...BUT I Cant remember if the zf-6 was put in on 88's or 89s... VEry easy to tell which it is though...

The LT1 vette had the 4l60e I believe....Assuming this guy with an 88 vette took a 91 later bvette setup and ran it in his car...The manual trans on those were ZF6 or T56 depending on year..

No 'Vette came with a 200-4R and the 4L80E has one O/D gear (4th).
