read your manual and you'll see and know everything that's involved in a gear swap. if you're saving for a new carrier i doubt if you'll want to save for all the specialized tools needed for a gear swap.

There is a guy in NJ that has a 9 bolt posi on ebay right now, claims to have 350 [probably 327] gears. You might want to check it out. He has no bids because it is pick up only.

well i cant find that 9bolt on ebay but i was askin about the carrier sizes. like what carrier do i have in my 82 z28? and i know i have 2.73 gears becuz im sure the rear is stock. but the thing is im not goin to changethe gears and what not. im goin to have a machanic do it so i know i wont be screwing much up. but like what would be the best gear should i get like product name and gear size? i want sumthing for street/strip. but is the eaton posi unit a good deal? becuz ive heard good things about them and that those are rebuildable.

Ok here you go, I don't know how to add the link but here is the #1809371532 it's listed under posi not 9 bolt. He's in edison and it's still 75.00 with no bidders. Good luck.
I hope the eaton posi are good, I just bought one today. If you're going to have it set up, it will get costly. New posi, gears, and bearing kit + labor.

you need to know the series of your carrior. that depends on the gears you have in the car already. as for the eaton, i heard those are very good. i just bought the auburn high performance series posi. it cost $312 from jegs. i have not put it in yet. it should go in this week or next. hope this helps.

I don't see a cam as one of your mods. Do not get 3:73s unless you plan on getting a new cam. Those gears will keep you out of your powerband and hurt performance, that's what happened to me.

[qutoe]also i heard that the 9bolts arent a direct bolt up, am i wrong [/quote]
9 bolts are a direct replacement in 82-92 third gens, provided you are switching the entire rear end. Internal parts between 10 bolts and 9 bolts are entirely different, but externally they are the same (save for the brakes of course).

thats what i was probably thinking of was the internals and said the externals. and also mark i will be changeing my cam of course. i play on gettin the one that zelpher has becuz that sould sweet. and 9 bolt for sale on ebay , it has disks instead of drum. how hard is it to put the proportioning valve in for the disk? also how hard would it be to just transfuer the drums to the rearend if i dont want to put the proportioning valve in?

The valve change is very minor. If you can change the rearend YOU can change the valve. I don't think the drums will interchange. Mormar has a set of drums for the 9 bolt. Personaly I'd go to the disk brake setup. Hope you can make the deal on the 9 bolt.

It's the aluminum block right under the master cyc. Have you talked with the guy about the 9 bolt? His add says it was working good when removed. I'd pull the cover off before you pay him, to make sure there's no broken parts inside. Just to be sure.

not entirely true. 86 tpi camaros had a long slender metal object stuck in the middle of the motor with some alleged bumps on the thing. people have been overheard calling it a "cam"from time to time-but i dont believe them. to refer to that object as supplying a "powerband" is utter hooey. really unless he is saddled with that "cam" which did go on for a couple years, later years it was split between auto and stick cars in some fashion 373's are a go ---work on traction

Yes, I went from drums to disks. The prop valve is really easy to change. I would recomend using the special wrenches though(I am not sure what they are called but they only have a gap big enough for the metal line to fit through because the nuts are really easy to round. If by chance you do decide that you want to go with drums(I wouldnt if I were you) I do have the complete drum setup for the 9 bolt in my garage.
