Rear End Gasket Question...

Hey,

This spring I will be draining my rear end and adding synthetic gear oil, posi additive...

I called my local GM Dealer and asked for a rear end gasket...his question to me was:

What size? 7.75" or 7.625" ??

I told him I had the 3.27 9-Bolt Borg & Warner rear but that never helped him... he said he showed two part numbers.. the 7.75" and the 7.625"

How am I going to find out what size mine is?

The 9 bolt is a 7.75. How much did they want for the 7.75 gasket?

Don't waste your money at the dealer on any of that. Use the "tubular style" gasket.

It is called RTV gasket maker, and it comes in a tube that you squeeze it out of...
Lots cheaper than a gasket, and much easier to scrape off when you have to service the rear again.

well i guess i'll disagree with rb on this one, i prefer to use a gasket and not RTV. i even use the china wall gaskets.

I am not 100% on this one, but I don't think that there is any gaskets for the 9 bolt readily available. You could always make one, but a good gasket silicone will work just as well if not better. Just do not apply too liberally, and createwads of silicone inside the diff housing!

There are now readily available. I will be adding to my page later this week along with a bunch of other 9 bolt parts.
