th350 and 4.11 gears??TALK ABOUT highway rpm ??

MAN......I DONT HAVE my tach hooked up right now(changing from led, wich the previous owner put in to real tach) but i drove my car out and i guess i got to about 55(my speedo is like 40mph off because of gears)and the rpm was skyrocketing.........is this ok......to drive my car near the 3000 or 4000.. rpm.. i'm not sure what rpm it was.......

actually it was kinda cool..besides the high rpm...

cant get any traction though...

Rob.....

so i guess i'm saying ..what is an ok rpm range for thruway driving ??

Assuming you have a 13" radius tire, that puts you at 3186 rpm at 60 mph.

Yeah that's wheelin...at 70mph you're at 3717 rpm!!!!

It's fine if your engine is setup for it. You might want to use a thicker oil, or change it more often, but all the old school cars ran at like 3000 rpm on the hiway.

My buddy has the exact same setup as you he had a 350 and a 4:10m and blew his engine on the highway...watch yourself. Just a word of warning. Got to www.smokemup.com and get your tire diameter and figure out your rpm its a great site. I might buy a car with similar......76mph is 4000 rpm

You might want to get a starter heat shield as well, cruising at those rpms is going to heat things up.

BOY, that's going to be spinning pretty good. You're probably going to need at least a well balanced rotating assy, and GOOD rods to crank up that high for prolonged periods. If you can stand to drive it 60 mph, should be ok. But I wouln't go much beyond that. If you're planning on doing a lot of state driving, your better off with a 700 or 5, 6 speed. Just my 02. If it were mine 3500 would be max, for long term travel.

'81 Z-28 here....

I have 4:10 & HAD A TH-350....

Well i am getting a 700R4 built...

Revs are too high, gas is too expensive & you cant drive it on a long trip without OD.....at least I wouldn't, and won't.

its nice though..because its like artificial horsepower....can burn the tires with no effort............................................its cool...but.. not cool because i have no traction....
