2.25 intermediate pipe with 2.5 cat and muffler

Well I'm in it now. 8 days till inspection (got the cat yesterday finally) and just found out it'll cost about $400 to get the system done in 2.5 pipe, and they would still have to order and get it bent at some other place. I could get an extension on the registration and try ordering just the pre-bent pipe from summit out of the kit (there was a 2.5 system kit I think...) Or I could pay about $190 and get it done with a 2.25 intermediate pipe tomorrow with the 2.5 dynomax highflow cat and muffler. Do you all think that setup would work somewhat decent? Someday I'll probably get a better y-pipe too and then go to 2.5, but for now I just want to get it fixed. My friends tell me I'm under the hood more than I'm behind the wheel.

Also ordered the ASP crank pulley (didn't get the alternator pulley) and was wondering if somebody has the p# for the belt for it so I can have that by the time the pulley gets here.

I would give you the # off my belt, but I am running both the crank and the alternator ASP pulleys, so my belt will be slightly larger than the one you need. Once you get the pulley the # will be in there, but since you want to get it before it arrives just call who you ordered it from and they should be able to give it to you.

What's your problem now? Seems to me that the prices that you're getting quoted are way high.

You're trying to get full 2.5 all the way back from the Cat I'm guessing? If so, then using a 2.25 I pipe will just bottleneck you.

Maybe I'm confused, but....I wouldn't even have to pay $200 to get exhaust ran all the way from the Exhaust manifods to the tips down here.

I agree; and I'm confused.

Why would you want someone to bend you a 2.25" pipe when the Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back comes with all 2.5" pipes?? Plus, will they use a mandrel bender, or a cheaper bender that puts crimps in the pipes?

Do you like the muffler you have on it now or something? All the pipes with the Dynomax cat-back have part #'s, you could probably have Summit get you just the pipe.

Well I went ahead and ordered the 2.5 I-pipe. Probably have that in about 20 days(10 day backorder). My original plan was to just order the muffler and cat and have the rest made because I was led to believe it wouldn't cost too terribly much (a little miscommunication at the shop). The reason I almost decided on the 2.25 pipe today was that it would cost half as much as the 2.5 and it would be done tomorrow and no more worries.

The muffler I have now isn't too bad, but it's getting there. Plus it's only 2.25.

As far as price, everything's high over here.

So tomorrow I'm trying to extend my registration for a month and then pray it gets here soon and that I have no more problems after that.

Don't know what bender they use.

I'm tired, next I have a car and the exhaust system goes bad........I'm selling it. (kidding thats a joke...laugh)

Yeah, usually a pre-made system will cost less (and be in better shape) than a pipe bent by a garage. Companies like Dynomax have expensive benders, and templates, and etc, so it's cheaper for them to produce a quality product than a local mechanic could. Let us know how it works out!

Well tomorrow will be fun, gonna weld the holes and muffler back together. I might have to put a piece of metal over the holes and weld the metal to the pipe to cover them. Once I do all that the only place it's going to is the inspection. After it passes I'll put the coat hangers back on just in case it falls apart again. I guess I better order the 2.5 tail pipes too. Didn't even think about those.

It was struggling a little when I went to Luxembourg yesterday. 200 miles and down to the 1/2 mark. Gassed it up to the very top too before I left. Course I was averaging between 80-100 and doing 75 at 2800rpms in 3rd up the hills.

Man I can't wait to get all the tuneup done. I don't like doing super high rpms right now because I'm paranoid about the timing chain,( service manual got lost in the mail so they're sending another one for free) and also the gas I'm sucking from the exhaust problems. Once I get that air intake setup and get new fuel injectors too then I'll see just how fast I can cruise.

I got the vacuum line fixed though, haven't seen the service light since. At least one thing went right.

managed to get the rust holes welded today. Pass tomorrow hopefully, then I'll throw the coathangers back on just in case till I get the I-pipe.

Got another question though. I haven't order the tailpipes yet, but would I really need 2.5 tailpipes, or would I better off with 2.25 tailpipes since that would still be a 1/4 in. increase over the old tailpipes

My current tailpipes look like they're only 2 or 1.75 or something.

einfach mit einer schieblehre die Ausgaenge am Endtopf messen,
normal ist 2.25 oder 2.5 für die Endrohre. Eine gute Adresse in Deutschland ist www.pika-autoteile.de od. telef. 06031/7212-0
dort hole ich meine Teile - per post 2 tage.

Er, call Summit and ask? That's just a wild guess, though.
