I disagree.

I totally disagree to that 86SC. Maybe you should read a little.

You need to learn a little about Throttle Body Injection.

all I know is that my 3.1 trashes TBI's. Took over 700 from kid in alittle under 3 months.
He even got headers, cat back and T/B spacer.

I have less then 200 in mods on my car right now.

Better watch out....

You better be careful...
I happen to know what a V6 2.8 can do as well.
Even the 3.1.
Slaughtered them.
All I can say is your friend doesn't know what he's doing or takes terrible care of his car.

Nice try. Talk it up.

Try a 91 Bird, 145K miles. decent shape. He thinks he knows how to drive... I think it runs 15.8 1/4...

Freind has a 89 2.8 Gtech'd 15.9 and mine will leave his behind quick.

My car... 92 Rs 3.1 custom CAI, 19 Lb injectors, slight port polish upper/intermidiate intake.

Oh and 5 speed(with performance clutch) Vs Bone stock Auto.

That's why I always yell "do a major tuneup FIRST!" on this board... a properly tuned 2.8/3.1 will beat a ragged out V8 with rims and exhaust any day. If the V8's in good shape, too, or worse yet- driven by a fellow gearhead who knows a pushrod from a connecting rod, well, it won't be pretty.

First of all, TBI is the worst piece of crap ever made IMO.

Second, if both properly tuned, the V8 will win.

Third, Don't think that V8 ALWAYS wins over V6...I've seen it happen.

Fourth, Gtech numbers are bull****.

Fifth, I'd go for the 305 to later drop in a 350.

Do you have any experience with TBI?

The great thing about it is it's sooo simple. Sure, the stock GM TBI's were restrictive....does that mean that every TBI ever made is junk? From a diagnostic standpoint, 10 times out of 10 I would rather work on a TBI than a carb.

As far as power goes, you can make power out of a TBI. It's no different than any other engine.

If you plan on really making some power get the 305. Mod it. If you want a daily commutor that can take a few races once and a while get a 2.8.

Yes Dan, I do have personal experience for TBI. Maybe I should rephrase my original statement a little bit.

With only performance in mind, TBI is the biggest piece of **** ever made.

I do admit it's easy to work on, but if you know carb's (Which I don't so don't ask me) carb's are easier. What I DON'T like about carbs is fuel economy and the fact that it doesn't learn **** whereas TBI does somewhat due to the computer. And Dan, while I don't want to get into a big discussion about it, I'd back my point till my fingers go numb that TBI may make a little bit of power, but never any serious power. And no, don't go to the TBI board here to ask opinions...they're all biased because a lot of them have dumped 4K into their TBI's to run low 14's and are a lil sour about it so they'll back it till they die.....or "sell out" and switch in which point they'll back up my point about TBI.

I see what you mean Billy. I just think that people see the 5.0 TBI and automatically assume that all TBI's are junk. It IS a base motor and not a performance motor...therefore GM tuned it as a BASE motor. I agree though, no big discussions on TBI.

well it will say this about my carbed 305 with a bad carb and exhuast my last tank got 325 miles to it. now when i filled up before the reading it was 13.5 gal. after the reading it came to 13.5 so the would be 24.074074074074074074074074074074 MPG fuel econmeny not an issue

TBI = TOILET BOWL INJECTION
