CAI Inspection...

Ok, after about an hour of planning and actual underhood work, and two trips to home depot, i finished my cold air intake. it's amazing the sound difference.... just so nice to hear the sucking sound. i still want to paint the pvc pipe black, so it doesn't look as tacky, but i also will get some pictures up so the rest of you can critique my work
i only have one question though. will i have to worry about passing inspection with this thing? i never really contemplated it.... i have the old set up, i was just curious if it would be questioned, or if the mechanics will just see that it's custom and move on?

Depends on how picky your mechanics are; do they need to pop the hood? I put my stock intake on just to pass inspection... I didn't go to a state center, but I figured I might as well do it anyway.

At Smog inspection time, ALWAYS REINSTALL YOUR CORRECT ENGINE SMOG PARTS.
Unless they have smog ok tags on them.

Here's what ya do with yours.
Make TEMPLATE of cardboard, to box off the "hot air" from the engine bay.
Get plexiglass cut to duplicate the cardboard template.
Install it.
NEXT, from below bumper, get a hose to throw cool air off ground to your air filter.
Curve hose thru the inner fender area.
All you're sucking in is hot engine bay air.

Or cut a piece of sheet metal to fit than cover it in high temp paint, thats what I did.

I like the CAI i had the z28 doulsnorkel intake and it worked great but i noticed it was bringing hot air into my engine becasue it sits on top of the radiator and all that heat goes into it makeing hot air. So i went back to the CAI

I've heard of people using a heat resistant blanket of some sort over the radiator to keep the air cool.

how well does you cars run without the MAF sensor? Don't you show a computer code and run in open loop?

3.1L v6's don't use a MAF sensor, reason they can run a cold air intake without the "difficulty" of relocating the Mass Air Flow. That's the only thing that makes CAI about eh....1/1000 more difficult for 2.8L people that it is for 3.1L folks.
