It depends on what you want to race. If you mod a 60* V6 get a 3.4L. Beat some **** out of some ricers. If you want to go after the bigger dogs then you might want to step up to a V8.

No
You will not win many races with a 3.4 under there too.
Go get the V-8

depends

if you can live with a 16 second car go for a 6

if you cant, you'll need an 8

i was gun-ho about hopping up my V6

then i decided it wasnt worth it and was a waste of time

the 6 cylinders in f-bodies are not performance engines

they are a nice cheap alternative for those who like the looks of an f-body but can not afford the cost a V8 commands

just be forewarned, a V6 to V8 swap will be very costly

good luck with whatever you decide to do

and i hope i didnt offend anybody

How do you define "pays to mod a 2.8"? Your view is probably different than anybody else's here. I for one couldn't stand driving around an unmodded motor; I'd want to do something to it.

You don't need a new rear axle. All the rear axles are the same strength, no matter I4, V6, or V8. The I4's with manual trannies actually got a 3.73/open/drum rear! Use the "Search" button at the top right of this message to look for every single message about a v6 to v8 swap. If you want to go V8 as fast and as cheap as possible, I'd say to just sell the car, and buy a V8 f-body.

And haha, if it was that easy to "just go out and get a good 350 and put it in", I think we'd all have 350's under the hood! "Just"... LOL! While I'm "just" putting a V8 in the car, I'll "just" go build a bridge connecting the americas to europe. No big deal, just grab some steel, and I'll get it done in no time. I can't understand why people don't build their own bridges... it's just an easy bridge.

Here's the way I look at it

I think the 2.8 is nice for a street drirven car . I still want to do some more mods to mine . I want to take mine to the track when I know it will run a real good time (for a 2.8 ) just to impress people ex - Wow that guy has that 2.8 in the low 16s or mid 15s .But as far as " I wanna run 12s or 13s at the track , Id just look for an IROC or Z28 car . Thats what I want to do when I get out of school .

Including tax and delivery,
I am paying $900 for my 50K 1995 Camaro 3.4 motor for my Blazer.
try to match the power specs for that long block,
with a 2.8 build up
at that price
Don't forget to include machining costs

I get a 30 day warranty, too.

My 2.8 modded cost the same as a 3.4 not modded . If I could do it over again , yes I would go with the 3.4 .Prabably would have been happy with it and not modded it . But I've had fun with modding my new 2.8 , especially sence its the same performance as my cusion's .

But , also keep in mind , I have a NEW 2.8 with only 20 thousand miles on it .
