How cheap ya wanna get?
Here's how cheap.
FIRST!
Open hood
Look at passenger side exhaust.
See that "T" junction
Deduct 5-7 HP!
Next Your old CC
800-888-8892
Don's Hot Rod Phoenix, AZ
Performance for Power CC
Get a 2 1/2" in & out
NEXT
Scout around for a late model Z-28/Trans AM.
Factory V-8 Intermediate pipes are 2 3/4" and fit the V-6 PERFECT! Usually given away for free as the owner wants a larger I-Pipe for his V-8
Next add a muffler your own noise level.
One other tip,
That "Y" junction?
Get a "Y" pipe set up from a 2.8 engined S-10 vehicle.
That has a WAY smoother "Y" junction (I have a Blazer, I compared the two designs)
Find a muffler shop that will work with ya.
Your out lay cost may exceede about $150 parts
Labor about the same.
Your HP gain will be a solid 10+ HP the entire RPM range AND your engine will run up the RPMS easier, too.
Do some research.
True duals on these little-V-6 no, not good idea.
You loose back pressure & torque.
You do NOT want to do that.

I agree with Karl (Ked85) 100% ...In addition to what he is saying , TRUE DUALS on a 2.8 sounds like crapola ! Im sure glad a bunch of guys around here told me that before I installed it !

Ust put a dual outlet muffler on there! Nobody will know the difference. Ture duals will make it sound like a motorcycle!

Look, true duals will not on a 2.8 make any more horsepower on the butt dyno than a good free flowing, CHEAPER (you mentioned this was a requirement) single system with a dual outlet muffler.

'True duals" on a thirdgen look so 1972 hanging under that car, you can only really run them without getting them ripped off on a highway dip or driveway if you run airshocks in the back.

I'm gonna add an UPPDATE because of my purchase of the 1995 3.4 from a Camaro, to be installed in my 1985 S-10 Blazer.
I also was given the "Y" pipe to the 50K CC from the 1995 Camaro.
IT LOOKS BRAND NEW!
Really!
Now,
On my S-10 Blazer, I do have a smoother 2 into 1 exhaust bend then the 1985 Firebird 2 into 1 exhaust bend (before the CC).
BUT on the 1995 stuff I was given..
THE PIPES FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE 2 1/2" to the 2 1/2" inlet of the factory CC. HUGH PIPES LIKE 38DD's!
My 1985 S-10 Blazer manifold pipes are only 2 1/4"!
GO GET THE 1992-1995 Camaro/Firebird factory "Y" pipe set up. Have some one figure our how to install those factory pipes on your 1985-1993 60* V-6 ride.
YOU'LL GAIN MORE POWER!!
This 1995 "Y" pipe is destined for my 3.4 powered 85 Firebird.
On the Blazer, I'm installing headers, eventually.
There are smog legal 3.4 headers for 1992-1995 Camaros/Firebirds?
Who makes them?
What's their price?
I think I may say I have a 1995 Camaro engine under my 1985 car hood, to get by the "smog legal" issue of header usage in my 1985 S-10 Blazer & Firebird.

A stock cat back system should have dual pipes already??? Unless the PO was cheap.

one problem I just noticed is the left pipe does not get as much heat. My left chrome tips is almost gone. I could grab n crush it if i wanted. But the right one is still nice, good chrome and still very solid.

But I thought only the 4 bangers came with the single pipes, I am sure 90% of all V6 thirdgens from factory have the stock cat back system with dual pipes at the end????

or some came like that cause the owner was too cheap for the dual pipe option.

when checking out thridgens I allways looked at the rear to tell what it was. if it was a 4 banger it said 1.4-1.7 what ever it was on the rear bumber.

Then if you saw dual pipes you looks for the 5.7 on the bumper. if it had duals and no label you knew it was a v6.

All Camaro's were dual exit cars. These cars are getting old, the exhaust may have rotted off the cars and the owner didn't care if it had single or dual pipes.

Also, you are forgetting about the 305 cars.

There is only one way to know, pop the hood. And even then, 305 TPI and 350 TPI engines look identical.

What year was a exhaust system allowed like that?
Let alone, whom would want to drive that on the street, longer than it takes to get to the muffler shop?
Maybe fun for a night but..
I mean, what you described is NOT the factory Sidepipe Exhaust System that was on a 1964 Corvette Convertible (Sounds WAY better, topless! in the tunnel) I once drove for a long night....

I think it might've been an option that was "pushed" on the consumer... you know... "we can't find a car in red with t-tops and single exhaust, but here's a red t-top with duals." In the junkyards, it seems to be more common to have an 82-85ish V6 with a single exhaust, than 86-up. 'Course, the 82-85ish cars might've had their exhaust replaced, and didn't want to pay for duals.

I agree with everyone, don't run true duals with no cats/mufflers. Even the 5.7 V8 guys don't bother with true duals; the HP return for the huge cash investment isn't worth it. I wouldn't spend $500 for an extra 1-2 HP!

If you're only 17 with a part time job while in school, call 800-230-3030, tell them you want WLK-17493 (Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back, dual 2.5 tailpipes off the muffler, single I-pipe, $160). Then, install it yourself for free. (Don't take it somewhere, that's the cheesy way out! ) You'll get a much better sounding and performance-orientated system than rigging up some strange exhaust system that nobody has done. No offense meant, I'm glad you're thinking "horsepower" and "loud", but if the V8 guys that pull 13's at the racetrack do not have the kind of system you described, then how would it help our cars?

Besides, your oxy sensor would have a FIT!
