I know you guys are tired of hearing about this but I was thinkng today ....
I was thinking today , know what would be cool . Is one day , find like a 3rd gen camaro , a 2.8 or 3.1 one . And swap one of those inline 6 engines they put in the Trailblazer . I think its either a 4.2 or 4.3 inline 6 . I think it would be so cool to have one restored to near perfect condition , the raise the hood up on it and see an inline 6 under the hood . I may not ever do this , but I think it would be fun .Is this nearly inpossible to do b/c its an inline engine or what ?
One of the guys at work had to pull the motor out of a new Trailblazer after it ate some pistons.
First off, it looked really tall.....you'd need some crazy cowl hood. Second, the length.....hell, it probably wouldn't even fit lengthwise without cutting the firewall.
Sure it would be cool, but waaaay to much work.

Hey Wayne next time your at the scrap yard look for a second gen Camaro that has an I6 in it. I saw one at my local scrap yard and MAN are those pistons HUGE compared to the 2.8L and 3.1L pistons!!!!
All though the exhuast manifold looked restirictive ( and LARGE) as all hell. I bet the exhuast manifolds, intake, and heads would need a realy good working over in order to get some good power from it.

Seems kinda funny me not making post asking for help or asking whats causing this ? LoL ....I dont know if the second gens had inline 6s in them or not . I remember one time at a carshow it was a 67-69 , one of those years , except it was a firebird with the stock inline 6 in it . I think Karl has an old firebird or camaro with a inline 6 in it ? I still have some things I need to fix on my car , but Im waiting b/c I just put alot of money into my car . bad Idler arm , need new bearings in the front , I really need to just do a front-end rebuild .
Wayne, you may be on to something - There is a new trend in Hot Rodding; Some guys are getting tired of just doing the same old V8's - I heard of a guy that was building a really cool Street Rod out of a '40's BUICK only he ain't dropping in an V8 - he's Rodding the original Inline 8 !! Eight cylinders all in a row - now that would be interesting!

Yeah those strait 6's in 2 gens had lots of engine compartment room. There was one in the j/y a few months back and you could sit under the hood with one person on each side of the motor.

The In line Six in the 2nd gen F Body stopped in the mid 70's.
77 for Firebirds (3.8 V-6)
Camaro, later on, not exactly sure when, tho.
Yes, my Wife has the 6 in her 68 Camaro.
Want engine room?
Try a Vega with the 4 Cylinder Engine.
I never knew there could be so much room.
I was given a new 1975 Vega 4-Speed after I killed my 1966 Corvette (Sept. 1975).
Atleast I had a 1966 Corvette for High School & College (72-75).
No biggie, I loved that Vega, too!
Yes, I did miss the Corvette.
But, I was alive, so that counted for something I guess..........

It only took me 19 more years until I had a Corvette I could call my own, again.
I have my 1967 RS/SS Camaro Convertible 4-speed to help make up for the loss of my 1966 Baby.
On June 30th, I'll be at the Petersen Museum in LA, CA
Doing the "Drive Your Corvette To Work" day with my 21 month old Son as the passenger in my 1974 T-Top.
We'll just mosey back home, so I can continue to work on my cars & motorcycle.
I love real estate $$$$.
Can't wait for my first fixer home to buy for quick resale!
Do you know Los Angles Real Estate prices have risen 30% since last year?
You do know LAKERS WILL WIN

It's only a fun cruiser, until I put in the LT-1 I've built, to break in that engine.
I have it totally stock, engine never apart.
It's got 135K miles on it, too.
Smokes & uses to much gas, oh well.
2003 model?
Who knows yet?
Maybe I'll see it June 30th at Petersen....
Maybe I'll wash my Corvette, too!
Been ages.

just wondering but has anyone thought of putting a 4.3 vortec into a 3rd gen camaro?
cause i'm doing it right now and the performance from the engine is awsome.
it's almost a perfect fit just had to reroute some cables and wires here and there but it halls ***.
4.3 vortec bored 30 over, performer series intake, with 600 cfm carb, ported and polish heads with roller rockers and lifters, comp series performance cam, and crank, stock exhaust and dyno results are at 347 horses at 4000 rpm and 383 ft/pd of torque. pretty bad huh for only spending a little under 2 grand

Do you know how easy it will be to break in an engine (500 miles easy/fun warm up driving), in a chassis, already built up, for regular driving?
This LT-1 engine will eventually reside in my 1967 RS/SS Camaro 4-speed Convertible.
BUT, the Camaro is not road ready yet.
I will definetly keep the stock drivetrain and rebuild it to go back in the Corvette.
The latest thing is to buy a new long block & slip under the old car hood & keep the old engine in storage.
Me?
This 1974 mill gets rebuilt & I want to use a 1963-65 Corvette mechanical Fuel Injection system on it! I'll be using 487X heads, best of the smog era heads (came on 1972 LT-1 & Z-28 & SS-350 engines).
I saw a pick of a 1973 w/1965 FI, in a 1975-76 Hot Rod magazine.
Is looked so bitchin!
I want it!
AND I can use that FI on my 1967 Camaro, too!!
