Distributor Hold Down Bolt
Ok...I went to go time my car today...and I understand to disconnect the EST wire before going...I also know how to use the timing light...so now I'm all ready to go there...I try using my 9/16" distributor wrench...doesn't fit right...tried using my 1/2" one(yes I know its for Ford's but I'm desperate)...and that one doesn't fit right...however I was able to get a 5/8" socket on that bolt and tried using some universals and extensions to get at it but still couldn't do it...Would anyone here shed some light on this for me...cause I know my timing is off since I checked it before going through the trouble of timing it...If anyone knows the correct size or special tool to do this...please let me know...it would be a great help...

You will need a 16MM socket, universal joint, and a 6 inch extension. Others have used a claws foot, but I have never tried that. Also some have even heated up a 15MM wrench and bent in the shape of a distributor wrench, but once again I have never tried it. All of these should be a good solution to the problem.
I have search and search sears for a 15MM distributor wrech, but have had no luck.

It's a FIFTEEN MILLIMETER HEADED BOLT
Sears sells this great swivel head 15 mm socket, for about $3 or so.
I also got their package of extensions & just went to work.
It is that simple.

I hope I didn't offend ya.
Yeah, the Sears Craftsman swivel head socket is a LIFESAVER for me & that distb bolt.
IT's difficult to reach.
I spent about $10-12 for tools to make it easy.
Then I set timing by ear, drive, readjust, drive, until car performs/sounds right up an incline.
Yeah, it's 15mmmmmmmmmmmm PITA bolt

Karl,
It's been really tonned down. Really depressing!!!!! Modesto used to be a big hot rod town. Now the city goverment wants to put a curb on it. The locals have never complained about it, but the goverment whats to make the town more appealing to business then hot roders.
At lest you can still find some good 'ol street races. I have even raced on Paridise (SP?) road off of HWY 132, Same place the big race in American Graffiti was filmed. It was a kick to watch that movie and see some of the streets from back then (even though some parts of the movie were filmed else ware). Some of the buildings are still there. We even have a really old A&W with car hops on real roller skates, and not roller blades but most importantly in skirts!!!

SKIRTS AND SUMMER AND CAR CRUISING
That is SO depressing.
IF I WAS YOU, I'D make a special screening of the film American Graffiti happen in your town.
Call Lucas Films, ask them. Bet they'd help right now, too.
Let them watch the $$$$$ flow in, especially after what's happened there.
Lot of sadness your way now.
You guys could use the fun image, again, like right now, especially on July Fourth.
I thought Paradise Road was on way to Sears Point Race track?
I was working up there (1985), when I picked up two high school kids (they were hitchiking/thumbing a ride). I was in a rented Fiero.
How else do I learn about the town, except by the local kids?
I moved to California because of that movie (one of a few, actually). For real.
American Graffiti was a very impressionable film to a 17 year old kid, who had a 1966 Corvette (my high school ride), in 1973.
Yeah, it was fun to learn many Pick Up shots were done on Van Nuys Blvd, where I would later street race, alot (1982-83)!
1968 Firebird 400/TH400, with Glass Packs & Chrome tips.
SO SWEET SOUNDING AT 5,000 RPMS
Addicting isn't the word!
It's fun to live out a few dreams,
AND live to tell about it
