I noticed some of you guys have the hypertech chips, where do you get those for v6's? How much? Do they do anything?

Chips are for cars that have more than just one or two mods . Sure , you can put them on a car with just one or two mods , but you get the best results with a car that is more modified .I think if you just have one or two or no mods , you have a better chance of makng your car faster by farting after you stopped threw the drive-thew at Taco Bell . Just make sure you roll the window down !

there are basically two shift kits....b&m (20.00) and transgo (120.00). i have heard that transgo is good to take off up to .5 secs off your 1/4 mile time, but i don't know exactly how truthful that is. the transgo is more expensive becuase it comes with more parts to be installed, and the general consesus is that it is MUCH better (friendlier) to your tranny and does a better overall upgrade than the B&M kit.

basically they will both harden up shifts a good deal, and help increase acceleration. some of the other guys here have also combined kits with corvette transmission parts....that stuff goes over my head....but they are barking second, and some claim to chirp third.

I like my B&M Shift kit... When I had my tranny rebuilt I added it in and it is nice to chirp first to second. What type of power are you looking for? What is your price and willingness to wait for the right series of mods? Just don't randomly toss parts on certain things work so much better and offer so much more in the terms of power and cost.

I bought a kit from a company online out of Florida , when I bought it I THOUGHT it was a Transgo , it was mis-leading the way they had it set-up online . I dont think they meant to do it on purpose though . I went ahead and had the kit installed anyway and Im very satisfied . BUT , I still would like for it to be a Transgo ! Why ? ....Transgo is the ONLY kit that fixes all the 700r4 problems ! Transgo will not do harm to the tranny , like some say the b&m will . I love the kit I have though , but I wouldn't recommend it to you , Id recommend the transgo .

As for performance , it makes your car faster by quicker shifts ! My tranny doesn't **** and fart around and drag the shift on forever .It's over with , with almost a blink of an eye ! And will give your body a jerk in the car . If you take off hard , you really feel the jerk , feels like you left your head back at the light It will chirp the tires in second . But , I don't do it that often .

what needs to be done in-order to install the transgo shift kit? im guessing the tranny has to be off the car.i think my tranny has bin actin up a lil bit. if i have it in overdrive. and im going about 50 and then i give some gas, i get this vibration.the whole dash pad vibrates and, if i have my foot on the gas and its at about 3000 rpm its goes to about 3200 and then drops a lil below 3000rpm. it willl go back up if i put it to the floor? any suggestions?

That's your torque convertor locking up, and either you have an unbalanced driveshaft or unbalanced tires...quick check, throw it in neutral next time...if the vibration's still there, then it's the tires...if it goes away...driveshaft.

To verify that it is the TCC, next time it happens, gently push your left foot onto the brake- just enough to put the rear brake light on, but not enough to slow the car. The TCC disengages when the brakes are pressed, so if the TCC is causing the vibration, when the TCC disengages, the vibes will stop.

I installed my B&M kit myself, on the garage floor, without dropping the trans. I'm 99% sure the TransGo kit is the same way. I'm sure they'd tell you if you e-mailed them and asked, or you could search the trans board. When I rebuild this trans, I'm putting the TransGo kit in. I've heard too many bad things about the B&M kit.

After reading through this post I'm seriously thinking about the Transgo shiftkit I hear you all speak of. My car to my knowledge has never had the transmission rebuilt. My car has 71xxx miles on it, and it still shifts fine as far as I can tell you. No problems. Would it be okay to install this sort of thing in my car? This really has my interest..... Thanks in advance!

Shift kits, Trans go is the best.

Chips, take that $$$ for the chip and get the stuff to burn your own chips. If you have a 90-92 I have the bin handy for you.

The Hypertech chip will, among other things, lower your running temp when combined with the right themostat. This is the first thing I do to any car I own. It will dramatically improve reliability and life of motor and hoses and also increases power by running cooler. You don't want to run too cool however. The MPFI will go into an "open loop" mode.

Just to claify, the chip will do nothing to have your car run cooler. Thats what a thermostat does. And a good fan switch that kicks on hen the thermo opens up. The lowest I suggest going on thermo's is 180. mine has been on it for a year and loves it. It never goes above 190.
