Weird Thing Breaks this morning.

My tensioner(spelling) for my serpentine setup, broke off.

Anyone ever had this happen before?

I have one off my 92. It still has some life in it if you want it, I will sell it to you for 5 bucks plus shipping. You're talking about the belt tensioner right? These things are expensive if bought new. Like 80 bucks or something. Just let me know! Eric.

tensioner, what tensioner?

I don't recall seing one on the 2.8 when I striped it down, but it did have the serp& V belts. What are you talking about Karl?

Working @ AZ I've seen some pretty interesting things, especially when people bring intheir pully/tensioner after trying to rig it to work . Worst ones to replace are those gm 4 bangers, you gotta take off everything because the tensioner/pully is mounted to the front plate.

It was $45 bucks at Carquest.

Thanks for the offer dude, but I needed to fix it ASAP. Cause it is my daily driver...

It's fixed. That had to be the easiest repair job I have ever done.
2 bolts, a couple of adjustments later, and tada. Fixed.

I just thought it was so weird, I mean, it fell out about 10 feet away for the spot I was parking in. Whew, that was luck, or sumptin. I'm just glad it did not fall out on the freeway...

You mean you do not want to be rescued by an Island Beauty?

On some of our 60* engine bay designs, tensioners are there...
I don't recall on my 1995 3.4 I got outside.

Guarded by the most vicious man eating dog, alive!

I took my tranny to the rebuilder, yesterday.
Comes back Weds.

My 3.4 is now getting prepped for stripping & boxing of the MPFI/Ignition stuff, repainting the heads & block Chevy Orange.
For my 85 Blazer swap, I need remove the 3.4 exhaust manifolds & the EGR system, plug up any holes for knock sensors, etc.
After painting block, then install the 85 Blazer 2.8 motor mounts onto the 3.4.
Also re-install the 1985 S-10 Blazer 2.8 exhaust manifolds onto the 3.4 block.

dang, so close

can't wait to here how that swap goes, karl.

btw - did you ever find out about the price of the timeing sets from Northern Auto and why the wanted so much for it?

I still only have the chain itself, and I think i am going to get a set from summit instead and save the chain for later (was only $12 ) Already got the FelPro Gaskets and OEM Water Pump from Northern Auto. debating on the Double Roller, but that's expensive.

Swap is going smoothly!
I haven't contacted Northern yet.
I have a vendor closer than mail order to assist my current swap boogie.
I've been detailing the little things.
Brackets, gloss Black
Valve covers Gloss Black
Intake Bead Blasted clean Aluminum as will be the timing chain cover (being repaired-welded aluminum, several small pin holes).
Block to be stripped once I get all the stuff together.
Last week was the 1/2 hour, two person, using propane torch, removal of the oil block plug in the water passage, pass. rear cylinder head.
This needs be out for reusing of the old style cylinder head temp sensor.
This week, examining what needs to be 1995 3.4 removed and stored (for future usage, it's all there, intake & ignition& coilpak+wires!) & then swapped/upgraded to 1985 Federal version, 2 barrel 2.8 specs for passing of CA smog later this year.
Clean & prep block for painting Chevy Orange.
Yeah, old retro look in a mid 80's vehicle.
I want smog legal headers, but, unless I score for free, not in budget, yet.
I just sent out the 700R4 tranny for rebuilding (<$500).

Next time you contact a vendor for ANY PARTS, tell them, you'll offer free publicity (by internet, pass out their product literature at a car show or cruise night) IF THEY LOWER THEIR PRICE RIGHT NOW & YOU WILL BUY RIGHT NOW.
Works 90%!! of the time.
I know, I do it!
Due to the lack of Winter rains in California, my $$$Tree is drying up
Tell them someone recommended you to them, for buying their products, but, he said, HIS PRICE WAS WAY LESS then what you just quoted me!!
I PROMISE you will SAVE some cash (atleast shipping costs may feel better!).
DEMAND better price$ when you phone up/give business to vendors. THEY ARE HURTING FOR YOUR NEW BUSINE$$$$$!

Remember this line in the movie, "Clueless"?
"Everything IS Negotiable"

Practice this on your next date

When I bought my new one from auto zone it cost me 80 dollars. Hey maybe I should have looked in a real parts store. That pisses me off!
