Are they direct fit heads, or are they the same part # for a 3.1 Beretta of the same year? If they're Beretta (or any similar FWD "Generation II" 60-degree V6 block), you'll need the correct pistons to avoid the splayed valves (of the Gen II heads) smacking the flat top Gen I pistons.

yep...and because of that splayed valve setup, if you don't have recessed dished pistons (to dishes perside for each valve) you'll smack your piston dead into a valve. Would be no fun.

Yep; the combustion chamber on the Gen II heads is also heart shaped. The Gen II heads make for a more efficient explosion than the Gen I heads. I'll see if I can get a picture up for tomorrow of both combustion chambers.

I too work @ AZ, they may have the same p/n, but look at the casting # underneath the part number, they will be different.
I noticed this when pricing 2.8 & 3.4 heads
and yes, Gen Motors Perf Parts Cat.
1991tealRSt-topGuy, you are excluding the TT/A right

David,
I assumed, since I had not heard back from you nor him, that this issue was settled.
This is BS & I'll call again.
Wish you told me this way earlier, I would have gone to Pomona & visited him for ya!
Didn't you go to Pomona Swap meet?
He has a BIG booth there....
I'll call when I get off line.
Thoise are teh FWD drive heads, poor parts listing information on AZ part.
But, that's a surprise??????
I will call for ya.
This has to be solved in your favor.
Why didn't you contact me earlier, I was right out next door to Pomona last weekend getting radiators fixed & such!
Would have been a 2-3 minute drive out there for ya!
Thank you for recommending the GM Performance Parts Catalog to everyone. IT costs $6
ANY GM DEALER
AND you can see why some 60 parts will/will not work and what is (specs wise) worth your effort and not.
And see the specs on the 3.4 engines that you seek for major upgrade performance!

My question is what would be the gains w/ aluminum heads - besides loosing a little weight ? My experience w/ alum. heads is that they are easier to warp/ blow headgaskets - they usualy need special bolts etc. My little mill ain't mighty but shes rugged, I'd want'a see some good numbers before I'd swap.
i have aluminum heads on the car now they came with the car i was real suprised. i thought it had cast iron on it but there not. i took a screw driver and put a scratch on the side to see if they were cast iron or aluminun and they are aluminum. i got some heads off of ebay that are aluminum that came off a 1990 camaro atleast thats what the guy told me.thats why i checked mine. that has been ported polished and a three angle valve job. i should get them today. i also have some comp cam rockers that im putting on too but i have to get vavle springs and all that good stuff before i put them on the car
What design are the valves in the head?
Have you put a magnet to those heads?
Not to be cynical or .....
you may have the only pair on earth that are aluminum and on a rear wheel drive 60* engine.
I'd enjoy hearing more details.
What are the part number of these heads?
With all the books I got from Chevy & GM & all those old Hot Rod articles (with articles about each year 60* V-6 stuff & the Indy Program for the 60* V-6), never mentioned alumn. heads for the Rear Wheel Drive 60* application.
And I have a pair of the FWD aluminum heads to hold and a bare short block 2.8 to play with.

NOT HAVING THE HEADS IN HAND (they are at the machinist in Torrance, CA - need an engine machined/rebuilt? Ask me), I am using as my reference the GM Performance Parts Book (1998 catalog to my left in a draw)
Group 0.269 Cylinder Heads
10048649 Aluminum Cylinder Heads
Production "Generation2" V6/60* TRANSVERSE-MOUNTED ENGINES have aluminum cylinder heads with splayed intake and exhaust valves. This canted valve design enhances cylinder breathing by unshrouding the valves at maximum lift. The high velocity intake runners and heart-shaped combustion chambers promote swirl in the cylnders for efficent cumbustion. Spark plugs are centrally located in the chambers.
See the easy answers you get when you invest the measly $6 at any GM dealer, by buying this publication?
That's why I keep recommending it to everyone. ALOT of answers & pics supplied for what ya need to shoot for.
Let the GM engineers design your hot rodded 60* V-6 for you.
Use their budget & knowledge.
Recently Jon Moss debuted a 60* Turbo Charged application, FWD platform.
It's probably a take off from the old Turbo installions in the ASC modified GP's of early 90's.
HP on that Turbo, 205, I recall.
Please tell me you DO KNOW who Jon Moss is!
You guys should worship his feet:hail: :hail: :hail:
