TB Bypass

I just finished this mod, and i am impressed with the outcome.

That TB is super cool, and i see an slight inprovement is acceleration, but only if you pay attention real closely. Also the Intake is slightly louder.

I reused one of the hoses to cap the tops, so it doesn't matter if that crimps.

However, i got a foot of a 1/2 hose and used the majority of it on the bottom, but it crimps. that caries coolant, i don't think that is going to help much. Whatcha think.

I read some old posts and ya'll were sayig "Who cares if the hose crimps" but which hose were you referring to, the bottom or top? Or did you leaver the top opened? Perhaps caped with bypass caps?

I was thinking of taking a larger peice of hose and running over the intake tube (saw that in an old post too, but already had the idea too.) yea or nea?

Anything else to add?

How ya solve the kink.
Go make a 180* "U" bend from a plumbing supply store.
Sweat pipes to connect copper pieces, attach to the rubber hose you've got.
Neater & tidy, leak free, efficent & effective.
Should be able to make this quite easy.

The hose connections on the throttle body dont even need to be connected or plugged after the bypass is completed.

If you have a trox socket that fits, you can just entirely remove the bottom of the throttle body. (This reduces car weight by aprox. 2 oz. [ I'm not being serious about the extra weight joke]).

I just don't see how the TB bypass mod could make any difference with the under hood heat that exist on these cars.. Unless this explains why my V6 has more power at cold start up.....The air fuel mixture is cold?? But.. My V8 bird' Also has way more power at cold start up, But no plenum? Is there a way to maintain these "power happy" conditons when the temp gets norm.

Lower your running temp via a 180* thermostat and a fan relay switch that allows fans to come on at low temps. Heat robs horsepower, but too cool can be a problem also.

The car right now operates between 195*- 220* from the factory. Mine with mods, never goes above 200* on a hot day.

Same here, i operate around 160 thru 170 on average, and around 190 with the A/C on...

GM runs the cars hottter cuase they create less emmsions that way. Easier to pass the tests. You can, with a few mods, get those temps down.

Think off it this way, if oyur engine is hot, the heat is passed on to the TB and the coolant also heats up the TB cuase it has 220* (in your case) coolant flowing through it. This heats up the air that fllows though it.

We all know that the colder the air is, the more HP we can get. Just by dropping one of those factore, the TB gets a lot colder. In fact, the air flowing through it actually cools it down. My TB was hot still after my friend finished the hoses and after a 15 minute drive, it was colder than when i started. In fact, that TB was probally around 70 or 80 degrees and the plenum was un-touchable. Just food for thought.

The mod can be down for a couple bucks, go to an auto parts store and buy a couple feet (Just in case) of 1/2 inch heater hose to connect the bottom tubes. I used one of the old hose to plug the top tubes to keep debris out of there.

I paid .99 cents per foot, thats all the mod costs. Easy to do. My friend did it in a few minutes while i was sanding my key holes with my new dremel... (He wanted something to do)

My tb bypass hose is crimped, too. I did the same thing, bought a foot of 1/2" heater hose. I just looped the fittings together that were from the water pump outlet. My TB fittings are open. That hose has been crimped like that (due to the sharp bend) since August '97. I might, one day, rip that whole water pump outlet pipe off the intake manifold. The only reason its' so damn long is because of the TB coolant fittings. If I take a hacksaw to that pipe, and cut off the TB coolant fittings, I don't have to worry about any little bypass hose- there'll be no fittings to connect!

i got a two foot hose and wrapped it around the Intake. With a hose that long there is no crimping what so ever. Also there is no prob with clearance with the hood. Works great.

I went to pep boys and they had a coolant hose that was perfect for what i needed it was allready bent in a U and wasent to big fit perfect and it was liek 4 bucks. After i did that mod i put a funnel with a hose to the TB were the hoses used to go made a awsome noise with the funnel kinda a loud pitch wine. But i took that off since i figured it had no use.
