Hi All New To This Board Wanted To....

Hey everyone im new to this board i wanted to introduce myself.

I live in florida and i recently acquired a 1985 Firebird,

And i wanted to know some information about it....its a V6 its automatic with poor windows steering, brakes everything except power locks and mirrors, i was wondering how many liters the engine was, how much hp it dishes out.

Im guessing probably 2.8 liters.

Anyone have any info on this car it says fuel injection on the handle so its not a trans am (obviously)

Welcome to the club ! Your correct , its a 2.8 . I think the earlier 85 models had 120 hp at the flywheel . Not sure about torque .

You may not beat that dakota . But theres alot you can do to make your car quicker . It's hard to get it "V8 fast" B/c of course its a V6 . But , Im sure it needs a good tune-up ...Go in the search and type in TomP tune-up . He has a whole slu of things listed which is a nice big tune-up .

Ditto on the tune up, especially if it's topping out at 85 MPH (goveners kick in at like 110 I believe). Do a search for TomP's "Major Tuneup" it's got everything you need to get your car running great again. As for the dakota, you've gotta remember that trucks have a lot of power, they have to to be able to tow trailers or haul heavy loads. There's a reason that you can't swap a truck engine into a car here in CA and keep it emissions legal. Oh, and welcome to the board.

Like all the others, welcome to the board. As part of buying/getting a used car, I dont care what the prev owner said, I do a tune up. As far as power, just keep coming back and reading the post and you can learn tips/tricks to get more hp, or if you have an idea, post it. Since I am a "newbie" also they ragged me quite a bit about using the search option, so dont hesitate to click it and seach before you post. I have started to use it and find my answers in a couple minutes on most of the most popular items. Good Luck!!

From me?
I'm lazy I like to do things once.
I got my auto tranny to work correct and reliable.
Change to a 5-speed, on a car you got for free and with 54K on 1985 issued GM Stuff?
ME?
Change fluids
Do a great tune up-Including replacing timing chain (really!!)
New tires/modern rubber
Wash wax, charge AC go have a BLAST!!
You will have spent maybe total of $600 on a great ride that's reliable and makes ya wanna win races.
Damn I wish I got my Firebird in the condition you've got yours!
AND
You own a CLASSIC!!
The more STOCK & OPERATIONAL CORRECTLY your ride is, especially at that milage with what ya say, your Classic Car Resale is as high as it can get.
AND only keep appreciating.
NOT AS GREATLY AS A 1987 Firebird Trans AM 350/Automatic T-Top edition or the 1989 GTA, but, you certainly ain't loosing money every time your turn that start key.

PS Your "tune/fix it cost" is equal to maybe two three new car payments, of some peoples 60 month noose around their neck.
YOU MAKING MONEY$$$$$
Smart

I just spent two hours in the blazing sun removing an interior that probably looks as great as yours right now.
Think I would not have wanted to driven away in your 85 instead of my 85???
Yeah the 3.4 swap is so worth it!

Find a junker to butcher, please.
PRESERVE YOURS!

You just gotta keep your eyes open for a good 8. You're not gonna find a cheap one on Ebay or a dealership. Check the classifieds in your local paper, or even easier go to www.cars.com or www.autotrader.com Odds are though that you won't find one there (you never know, you might get lucky). You can also check junk yards. The pick and pull near me always has a couple of complete cars that they're selling for like $800. I've seen a few third gens there. But those cars will have salavage titles, so if you're planning on reselling the car later, you might not want to go that route. Just remember that you get what you pay for. If you're trying to find one under $2k, then you'll probably end up with a car in primer that needs some body and engine work. But if you can get your six running good, then you can drive that and turn the eight into a great project car.

I can get them during week.
He's right off of 5 freeway. Call tomorrow,
IF Donny doesn't answer, ask when he will be there, inform me, I'll speak with him Monday.
I think one is a T Top.
DO NOT Believe a Z-28, tho.
How about a 1963 Lincoln Continental Suicide door model? $1K. Very decetn body. Needs front windshield.

i didn't read everything, but heres what i got to say...

The t5 swap from thirdgenresource propabply has the V8 T-5 is is totaly different than the v6 version... Call them and ask them about it, phone number should be on there home page...

I have a guide Stuart's Third Generation F-Body 60* V6 Performance Modification Guide but its not completly finished yet!

TomP's Major Tune-Up go here for info about doing a full Tune-Up. You'll really be surprised!

Wayne, in 85,for the whole year, they had the LB8.. 2.8L MPFI V6 which as Joe_L mentioned has 135 HP and 165 lbs of torque.

Look into doing a "Distributor Rebuild" cuase that can "cure" a lot of problems and prevent a lot more! :hail:
