How do you guys do this stuff? I heard these cars with the speed limiters off would barely pull to 115! Of course that's probably the automatics. I've had my car up to 90 or 95..no more than that. That's what I call my "Oh sh*t threshold"...once I hit that, I go "oh sh*t" and start the braking. Of course, the braking immediately was more of a panic reaction...the sudden realization that I was doing 90 mph on a 1/3 mile strip of residential road with a 30 mph speed limit...

never said he had "mechanical problems" an automatic is full of sliping that you never feel, why an auto seams to rev faster.

now if he had a stick, blah blah blah

When I still had my 1984 V6 Firebird, I topped out the speedo a few times. No clue on how fast I was going. The speedo only went up to 85 though

My moms stock 3.1 olds does 110 before the speed limiter kicks in.

My only mods are homemade intake and right now, I'm sure it'll get through 100.. I mean, it does over 70 mph in 2nd gear.... (Screaming like you would not believe! Once again, the transmission is to blame for not shifting it sooner. I usually force shift it, but that time I just said screw it, and wanted to see how fast it would go in 2nd before I started getting worried..)

When your clutch pack in your tranny slips, it is only under hard torque. If it slips at those rpm's while engaged, you would burn the clutchpack up in a heartbeat.

The stock 700r4 trannys run 6 clutches/ I run 9 in mine.

Sticks will slip easier than an auto if the pressure plate and clutch is worn.

Ha!
I've had mine with the speedo needle buried 1 and a half inches below the 140 mph mark!!!! I figured 155-160 mph easy!
Oops, I guess you didn't want to hear from us real (Ha) V6 guys!
I guess you all know what a turbo does? HeHe!

Having some fun,

George

TTA, get off this board man! Your freakishly overpowered V-6 doesn't belong here! I hate you turbo people...make the rest of us look like Toyota Corollas...

I wonder if I'm still wanted in Virgina for that ticket I never paid back in 1980.
Bastard pulled me over in Maryland for something I did in Virginia.

Instead, I moved to Los Angeles.

True.. I just said Corolla because it was the first slow car to come to mind. KED, why not go back and find out? There's gotta be some sort of law that voids a ticket after 20 years, right?

I do plan on returning to VA for a visit....
I hear there is a statute of limitations tho...
BUT ya never know......
Bad cops really **** me off, such jerks is a kind phrase.
I miss DC, GW Parkway, Rock Creek Park right now & especially Blue Ride Mountains, peak color season soon.

I hear ya.. The cops around here are horrible, sans a few. We've got the kind of cops that pull you over readily and ticket the **** out of you, but regularly tailgate you, then pass you doing between 5 and 10 mph over the speed limit and NEVER EVER use turn signals. Sometimes they've been known to flip their lights and sirens on so they can blow through a red light or a traffic backup, and then shut them off again.... And they're EVERYWHERE.. This is a fairly small city, but I swear it's patrolled like it's NYC.

with the exception of them being EVERYWHERE (actually lately, they've been much busier it seems), "sounds like YOUR [cops] and MY [cops] should get together and go bowling....." (breakfast club)

i'm not scared of them at all, most of them don't even wear a seatbelt, they all drive worse than me for chrissakes

From personal experience (1977 thru 1980)
Maryland Cops are the worst.
Biggest bunch of money sceeming bastards I ever saw.
Like WHEN IT WAS 55MPH, (the 1970's)
they be on a down hill on Rt. 495
Radar gun at base of hill
It was like picking apples with a .357 Magnum.
Truckers, EVERYONE was pulled over
HELL I EVEN HAD A MARYLAND COP PULL ME OVER ON HIS DAY OFF, IN UNMARKED CAR, WITH HIS FAMILY ON BOARD!

After he lectures me (This is 1978, I'm in a 1975 Vega on Rt. 495, 55 MPH speed law =s $$$$$$$$$$ to Marlyland)
I egg him on,
"Ya gonna give me a ticket or not?"
"I'm gonna let ya off with a warning"

Can a Cop, pull ya over, outta uniform, with family in the unmarked car, and legit, give ya a ticket?
ONLY IN MARYLAND DO THEY TRY!

Ok KED, that definitely takes the cake. But I think we all can agree on something...cops break the law more than we do!

Gosh, everybody is right. Today I duct taped my headlights on my Camaro for areodynamics as well as every other crack or seam and I hit 170mph! I was in overdrive @ 5000rpms! You should have been there to see it!

I just cut out the floorboard under my gas pedal so I could press it down further and I just hit 175!
