Thumbs up for Dynomax
I had the Super Turbo catback installed today and they put a high flow cat on for me cause they refused to run it cat-less..since when did this shop develop morals?? Agh..oh well, it's still pretty loud...wayyyy deep. It's greaaaat. Nothing but approval from me... Here's an odd question to speculate though..how would freeing up the exhaust make the transmission behave different? Because it has..somehow! Not all the time, but about half the time, it's shifting and doubling down a lot smoother, vs. the hard and shaky way it'd do it before. Kinda bizarre...but anyways, it's AWESOME. On my drive home, I had some hot chick in a Prelude try to go at me! Cops around so I didnt..cause I passed her earlier and she pulled up next to me and hung there for a second and then pulled ahead.. I was pissed cause I wanted to go! She had exhaust too.
All I gotta say is...
All I gotta say is...
i got the same catback, and a highflow catco cc. I like the sound allot, allot of people ask me if its a 305, and i say naw, just 191.
ill be posting my new cai later when i get the digital camera

My catback had garage time for a few weeks before I had it installed! And I agree, it does sound a bit like a 305...at idle anyways. I wanna hear it from the back, because at acceleration, the engine tone starts to overpower the exhaust note..wonder if it stays deep at WOT.
ok guy's i have the same setup with a catco high flow and tips.....
Now when I rev this things up i get a strange sound
it's sort of like the sound you get when you take a few sheets of paper to your lips and blow only it's amped up like 200W

how long has it been since you installed it? I've heard that the mufflers takes some time to burn in. The dynomax cat back on my blazer has done just that. It's gotten a lot more mellower & V8ish than when first put on.

I just put the Dynomax cat-back on my 1989 Camaro RS 2.8L last weekend. It sounds great, so much better than stock.
When I first started mine up, it had that "few sheets of paper to your lips and blow" sound when I would rev it. But that went away after 5-10 mins.

cold starts my cat shakes, and sounds bad, but when its warmed up it sounds nice, at mild acceleration and shifting 2.5krpm it sounds real deep and kinda 305ish, but when 8u get on it, it sounds like a 6...
ps, its a real good idea to weld on the converter ends, mine are starting to slip off, and seems to be making my exhaust hang low.
i still havent bought tips yet. pepboys on anyother local place dosent have 2.5inch tips...

I have a catco high flow converter, a 3 inch pipe, and a Dynomax muffler on my 1992 Firebird. I had a local shop do it custom back in 1996. At that time, it was the best deal for the best exhaust that I could get. They did a good job, and cut it right behind the y pipe to open it up for the cat and the rest of the system.
I didn't have 'paper noise' with mine for a long time, but then it started happening. With mine it was the heat shield that is tack welded onto the converter that would vibrate at higher RPM's. It is tacked on in about 4 places, and one of them had popped loose after about a year. I ended up taking the thing off, since i have about 3 inches of clearance, and it has been melodius ever since.

It's Monday now..I've had mine on since Saturday afternoon. It was blowing smoke like CRAZY for a few hours after the install, and smelled very foul this morning, and trailed smoke out of the left tip for like 5 mins after the car was off...but it hasnt smoked since. I think me beating the **** out of my friend dragging (for the first time in like 6 months) heated the system up good to burn the oil and stuff off...lol, and I locked the brakes up 3 times at the end of the street...was going way too fast cause I wanted to make sure he knew that I had completely won... (This is the first time that pure power and not luck has let me beat this guy's Saturn..I made another post about it I was so happy!) Let's just say there are 3 funny looking tread marks at the end of his road now... Oh and I didnt hear any sound like described, only backfire from revs.

Glad to hear you like the system! The trans is probably "adapting" to the extra power your engine's making... just like what I noticed with the higher voltage coil (as opposed to stock)- the trans shifted a little higher than it did with the stock coil.

yeah...well I think it's done adapting. It's back to its old sh*tbag hard and late shifting..lol. Ohh, where's our transmission filter at? It's an internal sort of deal isnt it? I heard putting a new tranny filter in will soften up nasty shifts..
