Head to the local autozone/discount auto parts/napa/Advance Auto/CarQuest/whatever and tell them you need a crank kit.
Prolly around $200 for all of it. I use Discount Auto Parts, myself

What's in a crank kit? A rebuilt crank, and new bearings? If so, I think Northern Auto Parts at http://www.naparts.com sells a rebuilt crank for $65 (with something like a $150 core charge). Bearings can't be much more than $50. Last I was at their website, they didn't have an online catalog like Summit, so you'll have to call them (gasp!) to find out about it. I know it's in their paper catalog, but I don't have any with me now.

AFAIK northern auto parts is http://www.northernautoparts.com
Yeah, a crank kit is a turned crank (mine for the '77 bird was .020" over) with bearings for that (.020" bearings) it's full main and rod bearings, with my set. As well, get some plastigage (mine didn't come with any!) and be sure to check ALL the clearances, and ALL the bearings to be sure they are the proper size!

LOL! Yeah they actually beat Summit on that set of Accel wires that I bought my dad. And both website address work, too, it's just that one is shorter to type than the other!
Just like eastwoodco.com versus eastwoodcompany.com !

thanks for all the advice, but i might go with a carburated 305 that i pulled from an '85 full size jimmy. the rods in my 2.8 are probably all screwed up, it knocks HARD! i really would have liked to save my 6, but i guess my time in this forum is up..::sob::
