wiper problems

My wipers have an unfortunate tendency to die in mid-stroke..also they do not turn off properly..they take their "one last stroke" for about five minutes sometimes before coming to rest. One of my buddies suggested it might be a bad relay. Anyone know where they relay is? Or have any other ideas?

I had a problem like that. My wipers died on me when it was snowing like crazy out too, left me stranded for a little while. They kept dying on me for about a week, then it magically fixed itself, no problems.

Yeah I got wiper problems also, they only move a little bit up and down, like an inch or o, they dont go up, only once in a while they will go all the way up and back down, kinda sucks seeing as winter is coming.

Why not just simple logical fix of swap frying dying old motor?
Wiper motors are $50-ish & warranties.
Does your ride have delay switches?

For real?
Delay switches
Causing the wipers to go on then stop then go on again then stop
For light mist rain days.
You don't realize what I'm speaking about?

Well for mine at least i don't think it is the motor..that was replaced just a few years ago, and when they work, they work strongly. I am sure it is some electrical problem..hopefully an external one...otherwise, I am baffled

You could have striped out post, if someone removed thw whole wiper arm before??? They strip out easy if lose and or lots of heavy snow use. I had one go bad and it was like that, it worked now and then. Ended up just putting a few set screws in itfora quick fix, bought a new arm $30. Still using the old arm 1 year later, set screws work, new one is in the trunk.

My wipers stopped once, when it was snowing heavily... luckily I was a few hundred feet from my driveway, late at night, so I made it back home. When it stopped snowing the next day, I took the wiper motor out of the car, and took it apart. Looked everything over, cleaned the brushes with some rubbing alcohol, regreased the gears, put it back together, and it's worked great for the past 6 years (it stopped in '96). Be careful putting the stator back into the casing; the magnets are huge and powerful, and you can nick 'em with the edges of the stator.
