Joining the wonderful world of BOOST

i found a 87 Conquest Tsi TURBO for 1700 and I am jumping all over it. Already test drove and this things HAULS... Laying in 3rd gear EASY.

Good exterior, and black leather interior... Drool.... Drool...(me even)

I saw it in the paper and weas like yeah thats gonna be a wasted car... pulled up and went... jaw meet pavement... WHAM... think its a T3, so small, bu easily upgradable.

already looking at a rebuild to go high output, like 300+ ponies from this 4 Cly 2.6 RWD wonder. Stock has 224 or somthing like that, and 230 trq... me likes me likes. Taking pics when it hits my garage.

get in touch with EIP tunning in westminster MD they makes tons of parts for the conquest. might i also suggest running a 1227749 ecm the factory efi is pretty crappy even at its best it still sucks.most guys run haltech but you have the viable option of using a gm ecm.

1) I remember many yrs ago, when they first came out, I was reading in Automobile magazine, letters rfom readers: "...The conquest looks like the offspring of when a probe knocked up a daytona.." still funny now.

2) There is a silver one sitting at a reapir shop up in Piqia that everytime I've driven by I think "C_H_D gots him one of those"

I think a good t3/t4 hybrid and intercooler is in need. The stock block will hold 500 easy. From what I remember the rods are fairly weak. If you are planning high hp get it built right.

the site I have been going to has said the stock parts will hold 300 HP.

A T4/5 hybrid is best, or go sequential T3/4 -T5 to get real Hp(above 500)

Fuel comp also required, or alot of tuning, the bottom end is near bullet proof, pistons are weakest.

Wow, a conquest. I have seen more Rolls Royces than I have seen conquests. That is one of the few cars I would leave stock. That is a rare find.

A rare find is what I found after my loan was not approved....

Ok get this....
Year... 1986

Condition... Exterior... 5 small patches of surface rust, 3 Minor dents, the panels in fron of the rear wheel need replaced(Basic repair)

Condition... Interior... SPOTLESS. Someone put in a temp guage that needs removed, but other then that SPOTLESS.

Miles... Get this... 30248. Yes that right less then 31 THOUSAND ORIGINAL MILES!

Price... 1K. One THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Reason so cheap? Engine spun a bearing. Been sitting ever since. They also want the turbo, and that alone. Getting 380 HP turbo replacement for $450.

Cost of re ring kit... $120
Cost of 8.0:1 Forged JE pistons... $350
Plus $450 for turbo =
$920 = Less then 2K, 400 HP car. Running low 13's in 1/4. And worth over 13K.

Number of Conquests' Starions in the area... 3 including this one. Number of Camaro LT1's/LS1's that are gonna get RAPED.... COUNTLESS.

You paid way too much.

The Conquest is a Starion with a body package, and 2.6L mitsubishi with a turbo. Cool cars but sadly very dated and not at all fast in stock form. FWIW some if not all came with stock intercoolers, they're easy to come by.

Oh yeah, my roomate bought an 87 Starion Turbo for $200 2 months ago. Its mint except for a cracked taillight and spark plugs that are seized in the head. I want to say it Gteched in the 16's.

At least its a bit better than a V6 Fbody, its something you can make fast for little money.

There's another mint Starion running around here, but I couldn't say if its a turbo or not. That one is silver, my roomates is gold with black interior, steering wheel radio controls, Turbo Turbo Turbo seat belts and turbo floor mats... Nice car, but the look is very 80's Star Wars... it doesn't have enough power to do a brake stand. It also tends to stall in hard turns.

Another buddy of mine has/had a red/orange Conquest TSI parked at his dads farm. But the engine was blown.

My guess is that you haven't seen more of them cause you haven't been looking for them. When you start looking for a specific car you'll see them all over the place.

Trust me I have been looking for one for the past 5 years, or more. I have seen 5 total. 3 in armpit illinois. Nothing but corn fields. I jumped on this one as it is the only one that I could buy under $2K!
