Exhaust from JC Whitney
Exhaust from JC Whitney
I have been searching around for the exhaust on my 89 bird and came across the exhaust that JC whitney sells for 149.00 . It is aluminumized pipe and mandrel bent.
Has any of you guys tried this particular exhaust and how does it sound ?
The Dynamax is kinda pricey but if the exhaust whitney sells is complete junk than I will go with the dynamax.

I got that very exhaust on my car. At the time a couple years ago, I needed to replace my entire cat-back and cat, but I did not have the money to buy a Borla, Hooker, Dynomax, etc.
It doesn't fit perfectly. One of the exit pips is a bit long and the muffler hangers make the muffler tilted a bit. I have had the exhaust for 2 1/2 years and it still looks ok. It's rusting around the clamped areas.
As for the sound, It sounds a bit unsual to me but I like it. It's definately louder, but I don't think it is Hooker louder though. I'm happy with it. If I had to do it again, I think I would choose another system for better appearence.
The JC Whitney exhaust is mandrel bent like it said. I would not call it junk though. The kit was $120 when I bought it though. If you plan on keeping your car for a while then I would just save up for a good exhaust like the Dynomax - I think it might last longer.
Here is a pic that shows how the exhaust is tilted a bit.

Wait a minnit; isn't it the same exhaust? JC Whitney does sell the Dynomax exhaust... dynomax part # is #17493, (summit part # is WLK-17493), and I think JC Whitney just slaps one of their oddball part #'s on the dynomax super turbo catback system.

They are the same. I just installed one this past summer and it is a dynomax only thing is that JCWhitney changed the Part #. It feels and sounds better. I've had people ask me if I have a 305 or a 350 in the engine when I tell them it's a V6 190 hp car either they look at me like funny and swear it's a V8.

I guess I have a Dynomax too. I always thought it wasn't because J.C. Whitney did not attatch a brand logo on it.

Dynomax stamps their name on the muffler..that's a good identifier...although I dont know which side it's on so you might not be able to see it if it's mounted...

Dsaint's right; if you've ever wondered why Summit puts the WLK- prefix on the exhaust system part #, it stands for Walker!
And Dynomax didn't always stamp their name on the muffler; my first Super-Turbo catback came with a blank muffler. The second one (after the i-pipe cracked because I lost the hanger and the muffler was bouncing on my panhard rod for who knows how long!) had Super Turbo written on it. Maybe JC Whitney just has old stock...

Iput the econo muffler that Walker makes on the car , but this spring Im going to order the one from Whitneys . Just bad timing because I spent so much on X-mas.
I wish It would snow here so I could get some Overtime in at work ,so id have more money to play with.
