Dale, Wayne, Ked! Injector Help!

Hey guys!!

Just got back from the junkyard, I scored a NICE set of injectors and the fuel rail from a 1991 Chevy Camaro RS 3.1/V6.

In any case, I have a couple of questions. Clearly, the injectors that were on this camaro are by far certainly different than the Injectors that I have on my Fiero. I will try to take pictures tonight of the differences. But this brings me to two questions:

1) I grabbed the fuel rail from the 3.1 V6 Camaro just in case. Is the fuel rail different than the one on the Fiero? What I mean is, I know that they are the same casting, but is the fuel pressure regulator set to a different setting than the one on my Fiero now?

2) The injectors, I can clearly tell they are different. The injectors originally came on my Fiero were the pintle type. My understanding, from what the Fiero people tell me, these injectors ARE the same injectors as the ones found on the 3.1 V6. However, the injectors I snagged from this camaro ARE different. Since they are different, do you think they're going to work better with my 3.1 crank kit? Secondly, these new injectors, while they clearly look like they're going to fit, they don't actually have the pintle on teh front, the nose seems blunt with a hole at the end (about twice the size as the ones were on my Fiero). What does this mean?

Oh yeah, where can I take them to get them professionally cleaned?

Thanks!

http://www.cruzinperformance.com for cleaning. Rick is a really nice guy. Has helped me alot with questions.

As for fitting in, I have put 2.8l, 3.4l, dodge dakota, ford mustang injectors all in these intakes. I dont see why your fiero intake wouldn't accept them.

Noses were all different too.

Fiero and camaro injectors have different part #'s and the parts store, so something has to be different. Don't see how the fiero guys would say they are the same.

Havent looked at the fpr on the fiero, but the 2.8,3.1,3.4 in the camaro has the same fpr. If your worried, get a holly afpr for 80 bux and fix that issue. But your prob doing like me and trying to do this on a budget, and then add the goodies later

Todd ,

I would think the FPR would be the same , but could be totally wrong ! Even though I have changed my FPR , I'm not much of an expert on it injectors and fpr . However , I did get the FPR for my car off of a firebird I did not know what year it was , I just knew it was a V6 and it works .

As for Rich , I've heard he is a good guy to do business with and he is honest. If I ever have to clean my injectors in the future I plan on shipping them to him . Karl should be able to help you out more . Tom knows a good bit about this kinda stuff to .

I think I know what part you are saying is different on the injectors but not sure . If you get some pics I can prabably help you more there .

here are the pictures:

sorry I can't link them, WebShots doesn't allow page linking.

When you click on the link, go to 1987 Pontiac Fiero SE / V6, and you'll see the pictures of the injectors.

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!

Yeah, I especially like the 1989 Fiero GT!! Heh, too bad it's not mine!

That's one of like 20 or so 1989 Fieros ever made. My understanding is that they did a small run of them when they were preparing for the re-tooling.

By the way, I just got a response from this guy at the Fiero Factory... he said:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The injectors you have are known as Multec. They are the disc style. You
may have problems with them as they use a faster ECM to spin the discs.
They are worth a try, but don't lose your stock pintle ones!

Have no idea about the fuel rail from the Camaro, but the injectors
should go on the stock Fiero rail just fine.

What do you guys think of this?

Thanks,

Faster ECM, wtf?? Never heard of that. I say give them a try, I don't think they will hurt a single thing.

You might want to look into getting one of them air/fuel guages to see if its running rich or lean.

Here's all ya do.
TAKE YOUR OLD FIERO FUEL RAIL, STICK THE NEWER INJECTORS ON/IN IT
THEN TAKE THE GUTS OF THE NEWER FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.
INSERT THOSE RUBBER GASKETS/GUTS into the OLD Current FPR on the Fiero fuel rail.
It all fits.
ALL YOU ARE DOING IS,
Swapping in newer parts, that's all it comes down to.
The pressure/injector/FPR don't make a hill of beans of difference.
WHY?
You're NOT GOING 6 to a 8 Cylinder engine.
Don't worry about formulas etc,
Just do it and slap it back together.
It's a fine upgrade.
Don't be concerned about ECM & this & that.
I slipped those 3.4 injectors into my 2.8 set up including 2.8 ECM. I inserted the 3.4 FPR stuff under my 2.8 FPR metal cap. Why? Newer rubber!
Works right & perfect.
BE CAREFUL of getting ANY dirt into the Fiero Fuel rail.
Great score!

Hah, thanks Wayne.... it sure would be nice if they RAN fine too!

Well, the 87 SE / V6 should be running good as soon as I get the motor back (heh, obviously). The 84 2m4 SE is the next in line for a rebuild. It's just going to be a stock .030 overbore rebuild with a moderate performance camshaft.

The TransAm is a gem in the ruff so to speak. It needs quite a bit of work before it will be ready to go.
