Muffler

Can the stock muffler with dual drivers side exits be directly replaced with a single-in dual-out muffler without replacing all rest of the pipe?

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. I know that the tailpipes would need replaced, but I don't want to have to mess with the pipe from the cat to the muffler.

the I-pipe should be the same, so yes, the muffler shoul line right up. btw, do only the 6's have the tailpipes on the same side?

uhhhh to claify some things...

the thirdgen mufflers ty[picall have 2 pipes on passanger side, single drivers.
1 ov the passanger sides is inlet, the other outlet. The 1 on drivers is alos out.
Thety do not have a "Dual out" on one side.
Some of the Flowmaster systems, do that, single passanger inlet, dual drivers out, with both pipes sidebyside on drivers side.

I had two pipes on my driver side when I got the car , but about a year lately when I got a flowmaster I put a pipe coming out each side . Of course my car is a "rare 88 rs " maybe thats why I had two outlet pipes coming out my driver's side .

There was an optional exhaust setup from about 86-88 that had two pipes exiting on the drivers side. I put this setup on my 86.

Yep, I've seen quite a few of those, too. Weren't they "only" for Camaros?

Gapprentice, that's going to be a bitch to separate the old muffler from the old intermediate (cat to muffler) pipe. Why don't you want to replace the intermediate pipe at the same time? Doesn't matter how good the muffler is, if the i-pipe is too small...
