Tonight's Project: Disassembling the Rear End
This is my spare '92 rear end, with the 28 spline axles. If anyone recalls, I'm purchasing an SLP posi unit Monday, to put in my 3.42 equipped rear - but i need these axles! I've never gone into a rear end before... so here we go... this first picture is what i've done so far - removed the rear cover
I bet that diff fluid smelled real good huh ?
I was hoping to see another picture like Karl posted a few weeks ago , you said something about a rear ....
Karl's pic - fine chick bending over in boat with thong on !

You just want to remove the axles.
Well if I remeber right, just remove a few bolts, and you should then see two clips (what I think are called butterfly clips) they are almost just sittin in there. There is one on each of the two ends. Remove, pull of drum, and they should slide out. But its been a while. So time to bump this too the top for experts advice.

Well, not if you break the stupid differential pin bolt in half. Thankfully, I've got yet another '92 28spline axle! Just gotta pull it off... grr... that's later this week tho!

That damn thing has snapped on me twice. Once was in a junkyard, trying to get 28 spline axleshafts out of a '90 V6.
So close, yet so far. If only I had that axle in my garage, I would've gone buck wild on the differential. (sigh)

One guy took a flat blade screwdriver and ground it so that it had two pointy ends. Then placed it into the hole and was able to rotate the piece out.
If none of this works and you are really frustrated can also break the carrier with a hammer.

Break the carrier... that's funny... Unless you've got a 20 lbs sledge, that thing is NOT gonna break. But hey, I got the pin out!! Now I got a set of 28 spline axles. Yay!
