check the SIR fuse on your fuse panel. also check your connections for the airbag wire. they're yellow in color so they're easy to find under the dash.

yeah, the same thing happened to my right before my inspection and what i did was take the dash apart to replace the normal bulbs with red ones and took out the INFL REST light and they passed it. the factory trained gm tech's would catch it but a regular garage shouldn't. most don't anyways. hoe that helps.

There is actually a connector in the steering column between the wheel and the column. I think it has something to do with the seven flashes of the light when you start the car. As long as you count seven, you assured you airbag is ok.

Anyway, I had work done to replace the ignition switch, and once they reassembled everything on my steering column my airbag light wouldn't go off. What happened was that the wires on that connector broke off, probaby from being installed wrong. So they removed the steering wheel and replaced that part with a new one and viola! Check it out....could be it.

During inspection, what would happen if you had removed the airbag and put a normal steering wheel in it's place? Do they fail the car?

if your car comes stock with an air bag, they will fail you if you dont have one. to stop the bulb from coming on, id just take out the bulb behind the dash that lights it up, or find a wire coming down from it, and snip it, and reconnect it later.

breaks are easy, exhaust leak is easy, kinda sounds to me like a new stearing column might be in order for you. not hard to replace.

There's a tech article on how to install a floor dimmer. Look at it.

Floor dimmer is a term used for a floor mounted high beam switch (like in older cars). By installing that, the switch is moved from the turn signal stalk to the floor. Where in MD are you?

IIRC the article also describes the operation of the lever switch. The dimmer switch is mounted low on the column with a rod that goes from the lever down the column to the switch.

Never thought about the air-bag light. Mine is disabled and the light is on, still passes in PA. Probably shouldn't.

RBob.

Its the dimmer switch. Its a pain but you can do it in a hour if you know what you re doing. Mine was located on the column under the dash. Only cost you 7 bux too fix it yourself. Good luck.

try that, worked for me. thats more the likely the cause of your problem too.
