1990 was the first year, 90-93 was SD.

On the V6 camaros, anyway.

All GM TBI vehicles I have seen are also speed density, meaning 88 and 89 TBI camaros get included in that list.

Sure... I don't think TBI motors even have the option of being SD vs MAF....

Thanks. I was just curious in case I wanted another thirdgen, I don't want to worry about a MAF sensor setup.

Yeah..MAF has advantages and disadvantages. MAF restricts airflow to measure it and is more difficult to work around, BUT since it relies directly on airflow and not on manifold pressure and crap compared to a data chart, an MAF is capable of working on an engine with more power...the SD system gets inaccurate on large horsepower increases. And TBI never came with the MAF...imagine that, a funny carburetor looking thing with an MAF tube sticking off the top? That would look pretty funny though!

That isn't exactly true. Thirdgen MAFs kinda suck. 4th gen MAFs are much better.
Thirdgen MAFs only measure up to a certain CFM of air, which is a problem when you get really high HP motors w/ FI and stuff like that. So, in theory SD cars w/ a new chip have a much higher HP potential then Thirdgen MAF cars.
Though this is nothing a typical, or even most atypical, V-6s need to worry about.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

If a V8 with twice the displacement can run MAF the we certainly can with room to spare- no matter how built we are.

I've never had to deal with a Thirdgen MAF....although I've seen them before and they look very small!

Well, it is not the size that counts, it is how you use it! Actually, this is kinda true when it comes to MAFs. Thirdgen MAFs don't understand anything beyond a certain CFM. You may be able to cram huge CFMs through it, but it can only go so high. 4th gen MAFs have a limitation... but I don't know of anyone that has reached it. So really it isn't the size, it is the programming that is the real limitation.

Oh, and V-6 and V-8 MAFs are not interchangable. Course, this is only what I've heard from a reliable source, but don't kill me if that is wrong Heck, someone please tell me if that isn't true, would save some people I know lots of problems!

My next question to you guys was going to be if you could use a LT1 high flow MAF (One equivelant to what Granatelli sells) into the V6 with the prom recalibrated? I'm going to check into this futher.

Edit: I need to learn to check my spelling errors before I hit submit.

It is possible, but not sure about the 2.8-3.4 series motors. I know the 3.8 turbo boys do it. Hopefully 89flygta can shed some light on this subject! I know he has done some research (possiblely extensive, never asked) on this.
