I'm looking to buy a wire set...will the ones made for an 82-86 v-8 fit my car...cause i can't find any for a 2.8 and i know that most of the v-6ers here order a v-8 set with two spare wires...just wondering which ones to get...msd or accell...i'd like to go with accel and make a complete accell ignition setup...but if i'll mix things up if i'll get a better result...thanx for you help

Myself and someone else on the board dislikes accel wires. However, ked85 praises them.
I am running taylors on my s10, and plan on putting them on camaro and dodge sometime.
All ideas, and no money

I'm running Taylors too...they make a custom set for us, but they apparently aren't THAT custom because several of the wires are cut WAYYYY long...but other than that, I have no complaints for them. They're real pretty wires and didn't give me any problems before I sold the car. I got the set for about $55-$60 ordered at the local speed shop. The V8 wires...I'm not sure about the length on them, but you can always trim them if it comes down to that..but I prefer to buy the ones that come crimped and booted from the factory.
ive got accel spiral core 8mm wires. they are a universal sbc set and i had them custom cut to the v6 specs. i dont remember what they cost i would have to look the slip up i got them at advance auto though. i also have the accel coil cap and rotor

Right now I have 8mm Crane Cams wires. Over spring break, I will crimp and cut my MSD wires that I picked off of 71 351W. I am not using them now becuase they have the socket style distributer boots. I got them to work with my HEI, but they were still kind of loose. I have the new HEI boots, but I haven't gotten around to crimping them.
If you get a set from a V8, make sure the spark plug boots are straight.

I recommend getting the v8 set, and only using 6 wires- if you're buying a "universal" cut/crimp/make your own kinda-set. If you buy a precut set, the wires will probably be way too long- but I think you knew that already.
Yeah, I use the MSD 8.5mm SuperConductor wires, and always bought the V6 kit- until I noticed the v8 kit with 2 extra wires was only $8 more. Best part; if I get up to 3 v8 kits, I'll have a "free" v6 kit!
I know what you mean about staying with all one brand... I had an Accel remote HEI "computerized supercoil" on my car.. when the girlfriend bought me the MSD 6AL kit, I put the Accel coil in the basement, and bought an MSD Blaster SS coil- just to keep everything matched.

All of my ignition parts are Accel, except for the wires. I have heard to many bad things about them to not use them. The most common complaint was that the wires would fry or melt.

Weird... I bought my dad a set of Accel Super Sport (8mm) wires for his truck; they're still okay. Then again, he doesn't have any aftermarket ignition setup; still using the factory coil, too.
i have always used accel products on my car and have never had a problem with them. i hear msd products are good too ive never used them though. maybe on the next tune up ill go msd.

well...i have found all my parts needed...i will be placing the order in a few minutes...going with accel and also a holley ignition module...i went to a local speed shop...the only thing i will buy from them are my wires...summit is backordered on wires...and for a couple bucks more i'll get them right away and not have to wait until april...but i will always have a back up set of wires becasue the current ones on my car are lifetime warranty...when i put my new ones on...i'll take the old ones to autozone and get a new set in case of anything...umm...i got some other stuff going in over my spring break...new cat...i would write a new post...but its easier to post in here...i bought a universal cat and its 2 1/2" inlet/outlet...howver...i know the y-pipe from the manifolds is smaller...so i would have to put an adapter in there to make it work...anyone think i would have leaks using all clamps...i don't see a problem with it because the factory cat isn't welded...oh well...time to place my order...thanx again guyz...i'll let you know how everything works out

The factory cat isn't welded, but will have a ball flange where it "exits" to meet the "entrance" to the intermediate pipe of the cat-back system. How much did you pay for the universal cat? You might've been able to get a high-flow cat for the same price. Your factory y-pipe should be 2.5" out... it isn't?
I've never had leaks using all clamps; nothing on my exhaust system is welded. That's just an old wives tale, probably told by people that forgot to check the tightness of the clamps after a few heating/cooling cycles.
