Fiero Valve Covers

Ok...I just got myself a set of those bad boys and will be installing them this weeked as I need to replace my intake manifold gaskets...so while I'm in there...why not put them in...question is do they need a special gasket...or will the ones that came with the Felpro upper intake manifold gasket set work...cause on the box it says that special valve cover gaskets are needed on Fieros...just wondering if I need to buy more before doing this project...thanx alot

Yes you need the special Fiero Valve cover gaskets. PepBoys sells them. You did get the fiero bolts right?

I'm interested in this mod as well. I have the 3.1 All I need is the fiero valve covers off a 2.8, the bolts off the fiero covers, and the fiero gaskets, right? What are you guys talking about when you say "special fiero gaskets"? Is there more than one kind?

Other than that it's a straight bolt in, right?

JP -- flip the VC upside down. See the groove? that's where the gasket fits in.

There are 2 kinds of fiero gaskets

1,. Fieros
2. Everything else

:sillylol:

You do need the special fiero gaskets.

Now, if you dont have all the bolts, I found the "solution".

My local zone, and orilleys carrys in the "help/bolt" section, a double pack of 6-1.00x25mm bolts. Made buy dorman, puke green box color. Get that, then a set of washers that is slighly larger then the head of the bolt. Put two washers down, then the bolt, tighten down, WA-LA.

Mine came with the bolts but I sh*t canned them. Went to an industrial hardware store and picked up some nice stainless steel allen head bolts instead.

I have a set, yet to be installed.
Definetly need special gaskets and hold onto those sleeves for the bolts, too.

Can one make gaskets w/ RTV or some other gasket material instead?

Why do all that work, only to set yourself up for a leaking mess?
Do the right way, first time, as often as possible on valve/head work on these MPFI engines.

What exactly are the gaskets made out of? I was wondering the same thing (if they could just be made with blue RTV). They're not cork, are they? What's so special about 'em? Do the valve covers have some kind of funky sealing surface (not flat)?

These gaskets recess into a fitted path on the valve covers.
Made of a rubberish gasket material.
I have a set that stuck when I lifted mine from the Fiero.
Covered in Blue RTV.
Dat's a NoNo!

Rubber as in "reusable"? That's cool.

MAYBE, kinda doubt.
I'm buying new gaskets.
Cheap investment for the less leaks.

reused the ones on mine. I clipped off the old silicone around the area where the intake meets the heads. Put a dab of my new silicone, and on they went.

6 months or more, no leaks so far

OK gotta get gaskets before I put these bad boys on. $17 at the 20% off sale this weekend @ Pick-your-part.
But I gotta strip them down and repaint them when the car gets painted.

Since I have to take off the plenum and fuel rail to get to the lifters, are there a special kind of O-rings do I get for the injectors?

my parts store didnt list any for the "3.1l" camaro, but injector o rings for a 5.0l mustang worked fine on mine. They are "universal" o-rigns even though they not listed that way.

How did ya do on the compressor hunt?
Now is the time to investigate the ticking noise you mentioned.
