Leaking fluid...
I had a post earlier on a coolant leak while I was changing oil.The weather has'nt been the best, so I cant do much. The leak was coming from a cover behind the oilpan and in front of the tranny fluid pan. There is as hole there about 1/8" or something like that and the coolant was coming from there.I looked behind the engine from the topside but I didnt noticed anything.I checked the oilstick after I ran the car to town and back and it looked clear after I let it sit for awhile to cool down.I was told it might be an intake gasket gone bad or a freeze plug on the backside of the engine, but I would have to drop the tranny in order to fix it if it is the freeze plug.If I dont notice anything in the oil, is that a good sign or what? How can I tell if its the intake gasket or a cracked head. The engine is from another V6 RS like mine and it only has 51k miles on it.PLEASE help guys before i mess this engine up!!!

An head gasket is much worse than a freeze plug. At least you can replace a freeze plug. If your oil looks like chocolate milk, then you have a blown head gasket, time for a new engine, 3.4 SWAP! If it's just a freeze plug, yeah well drop the tranny and replace it.

I see you say that you should do a 3.4 swap. How about a 3.1 from a 91 RS or something? My engine siezed the other day, and we had it on a lift and we found a big chunk of metal above the starter, and we felt around, and found a big jagged hole about 2 inches by 1 inch wide in the side of the block... So I gotta replace it, lol. What cars had the 3.4, and would I have to change the Transmission or anything? I want somethin that will drop right in. I want a 5.7 TPI, but I would have to change computer, transmission, ect... I want somethin that requires VERY little changing, somethin that will drop in, I might just stay with the 2.8, but I want a 3.1...
Thanks

3.4 it is my friend. Sorry to hear about the motor BTW. It truely is a sad day when any 3rd gen dies, but at least you can bring it back to life, and make it much happier than ever.

if that's what you are looking for, good deal. How's the body. check for any rust BEFORE you are bound to it. Also, check all the fluids and take it for a drive. Don't forget the differential fluid. All you have to do is get under it with a 3/8" rathet and a small extention under the pass. side, find the plug and back it out. Shove your pinky finger in there, uness of course you have big fingers, then find something else. The fluid should come up to just below the hole.
I forgot to check this, and about a month after I got the car, the pinion bearing went bad because it wasn't lubed.
Overall though, if you want a V8, that's a good place to start. There's a lot you can do with it. You will have to do a lot of work with getting a radiator, ECU and a few other things to make it fit and run in your V6 powered third gen, but it's possible. Good Luck.

Actually, today, I just found a smashed in camaro that hit a BMW motercycle head on, I have 2 camaros, so I will pull the nose and the hood off one, and take off the front piece right behind the headlights, and swap that too. Its only got 45000 miles, GREAT condition everywhere else, I have the spare, is it worth it?
Thanks
