Hey TomP, I've read a lot of your posts, and I find your knowledge impressive, and your loyalty to your 2.8 even more impressive. Have you had your car dyno-ed lately. How does it perform?

Tom is the V-6 Guru.
He owns a car that runs smooth and believes in having mechanicaly sound vehicle. He tells us in many other posts that he has a lot of body work to do to his car. He himself never brags of having a great looking or fast car. He knows the subject, V-6 is his game, You have a problem he probably has expierenced it before.
Tom reminds me a lot of my father. My dads cars never looked the best body wise, but they always had excellent brakes, tires, exhaust, and ran smooth. I know when we see a multi-colored car drive by we laugh. But if you step back for a second I bet those multi colored parts have more material in them then our rusted away one color cars.

yeah, at first I had my heart set on getting a V8 Camaro, but once I got the sixer and started visiting this board, I love my car. Plus, without the help of TomP and many other V6 gurus, I don't think that my car would still be running right now. Thanks TomP and all the others like him...:hail:

Never dyno'd it, although I'm toying with giving it a run before I rebuild a 2.8 and trans to put in it. Might prove interesting to see how a 248,000 mile motor has held up to the "brand new for 1986" horsepower estimate. You can probably dig up all my timeslip information from the board; fastest time was 16.87 in the 1/4 back in 1996. Last run; I guess it was in 2000, was a 17.1; I'm assuming mileage (worn cam lobes) and steel wheels and the added weight of the newly-swapped rear disc brakes were mitigating factors.
As for being a stud, well, my fiance' thinks so!

LOL, Joe_L! Luckily my car's one color... unless you include rust!
But I just got my House of Kolor paint chip charts in the mail today; I've gotta sit down and decide on a color. Already got the paint gun (Devilbiss Finishline HVLP), so it's back to regular bodywork, and then shooting the new color. Amazing; a quart of House of Kolor paint is $50. When Maaco shot my car, they charged me $380. I would love to know the price/quart of the paint they used... it must've been really cheap stuff.Started cleaning up the basement this weekend; I have so many spare parts it's ridiculous. I could probably build another Firebird! But if I can clear up one pile, I'll have the perfect spot to put an engine on my new engine stand. Should be cool!

Dont worry Tom I knew your car was one color; rust does not count as a color either.
I remember you talking about your paint gun a while ago. So the plan is to prep it them get macco to finish it off for you?

Joe, nope, no more Maaco! That's what I did last time. This year I'm doing all the prep myself (again), but shooting the paint myself. It was a good way to get a first paint job, and it might've lasted longer had I washed and waxed it more often, but I can't complain too much for 5 years worth of paint.
Gloin, is that what they do? Ouch.

My 2.8 89 Firebird still has a nice body for the most part on it.. the engine does have a few problems though . i think i better start reading up the other posts in this section and see if i can find a fix to its lack of acceleration.
