Swapping 2.8 to 4.3, drawbacks/benefits ?

I just found a guy selling a V6, 4.3. I guess he said it was out of a toyota? Im not sure .. supposedly it will work in my car. Any suggestions one way or another and also i thought keeping it a V6 would make things simpler and I wouldnt have to switch tranny and so forth. Need suggestions .. thanks guys..

theoretically a 4.3 would work in a camaro, but it has to be a CHEVY 4.3 and you would need to convert to a trans from a v-8 and fabricate or locate motor mounts and wiring and other such swap accessories

in short it's more involved than swapping in a v-8 and most likely more costly all in all

unless you've had previous swapping experience i would leave that engine alone let a s-10 guy use it , if you want more power find a whole v-8 parts car and gut it or sell your car and buy a new one

remember it could be done, but it's not cost effective nor would you have the gains of a v-8 engine (well it's still better than a 305) if you really want to do something different by all means go at it but you best recoginze what you're getting yourself into if you start the swap

Nice V-8 S-10 Swap!
DO A SEARCH & read why no one
not even General Motors
in the 10 years of 3rd Gen production
Has ever put a 4.3 under the hood of a F body.
Go buy a V-8 ride for a better project.
Good luck with your decision.

Don't worry about not being very 'enlightened' as far as engines are concerned, because we all started off knowing nothing.

The 4.3 swap won't be any harder than a V8 swap, but for the same trouble and money, you could swap in a 350 and have a lot more power and potential. If you want to swap in more power, without too much hassle, then do the 3.4 swap boogie. It won't turn your car into a drag strip burner, but it will feel and will be a lot more powerful than your 2.8 liter engine. The 3.4 has to come out of a 93-95 F-body RWD car, and the 3.8 liter out of later models won't work for the same reason the 4.3 won't.

Cant put in a 3.8l. Look for a 3.4l, 93-95 Camaro/Birds. call your salvage yard. 200-900 a pop depending on location/miles on engine.

BEYOND THE LEARNING Curve you're enjoying now...
There is the search button for some topics.
BUT .......
ALSO the reason NO 3.8 in the 3rd Gen F Body (YES ONLY ONE (1989 Frirebird Trans AM 3.8 V-6 Turbo) & IT HAS A SPECIAL CYLINDER HEAD USED TO FIT UNDER THE 3rd Gen Hood/engine).
What to do.
Serious
RESEARCH by shop manuals (read engine stuff section & see what engines were commonly offered in the 3rd Gens)
Use the Search Button
Common sense
YET if ya gotta ask about "swaps" maybe a swap is beyond your current talent & skills so it may be very wise to "can" this project & buy a complete running ride.
Meaning
USING your MONEY & TIME WISEY for the benefit of LESS AGGRIVATION in your life right now.
PLUS
One day ya get to return & execute your dream
BECAUSE YOU CAN ACHIVE your dreams
as long as ya alive

DON'T BE DISCOURAGED
Find a better solution for this moment in life.
Ya got a VERY LONG WAY in life to go!

From the guy that wrote the 2.8/3.1->3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie.

PS Some V-8 3rd Gens can be purchased complete, intact, running & moving for as little as $250!
Serious, recent Chevy High Performance articles have been written about a guy who did just that.
IT does take luck/timing.
Get going to find a better solution
YOU CAN ACHIVE THAT
DO WELL!
You will!

Ok . l get the point.. Ill give up on the engine swap .. Id switch cars but heres my story.

I got suckered.
Paid a dealer $6300 with a BANK loan for this V6 '89 car. I have $4900 left on this loan.. now to sell my car id have to get at least $4900 bucks to get the title from the bank. I highly doubt i can sell it for that amount of money, so basically im stuck paying full coverage insurance on this car and driving it till i can get it down to a lower price to sell it. Its a nice car and all though at least.

Been there but not that deep.
Perhaps a revisit to the seller?
In court?
Best thoughts!

OUCH!!!

Is the engine wearing out, having problems?? If not, don't "fix it". Let it be. Keep good maitanice on it, and it will last you longer.

Only reason I did engine swap in my truck is that it is 90% show/10% daily driven. I wanted something to make people look twice. It did have some mechanical issues that were pissing me off. So I killed 3 birds with one stone. Looks/Repairs/Power.

If it runs fine, dont F**k with it. Spend the money and pay it down faster.

a now for something completely different:

there are brackets to let a V8 swap in place of a 4.3 (v8 s-10 swap), it might also work bass ackwards, but don't quote me. if it does go, make sure it's a tb intake, as there are supercharger kits for it , aint jack for CPI engines
