tires for v6
let me start by saying i know this topic has been covered tons of times. i need tires for my firebird, stock is 215/65r15. any advantages of going up to 235/60? i heard from one person that they wont rub. u guys know as well as me that these v6's dont make any torque so would the wider tires be a waste? will over all handling be better with wider tires, and stopping distance? looking for 4 new tires, in the $50 dollar range. looking at some yoko's. anyone recommend a tire in this price range or will they all pretty much be the same in this price bracket? also were should i get them? tirerack is looking pretty good at the momenet.

My '88 is wearing Goodyear Eagle RH 235/60R15s.. I think I've heard it rub once.. pulling out of a parking spot at full left lock.. Otherwise, I love these things. I doubt I'd have nearly the traction I do if I was running 215s.. doesn't help a whole lot in the rain though =\
I've only lost traction with them cornering or braking once.. and it was a combination of both after a light shower when the roads were slick as hell.. on a tire that's low on tread.. (okay, lost front end traction.. rear end traction is a different story.. I'm a saint on the throttle while cornering these days)
The V6 is not going to get much use from the grip in a forward direction, but the cornering and braking aspect has me sold none the less.. I'm personally considering 225/60s for my V6, as I know it doesn't need the 235s, but that's just me. =)
I'd actually reccomend BF Goodrich Radial T/As as far as brand.. they go for about 75 bucks each local.

I used to run 225-50-15 tires on my firebird. The only drawback was that the speedometer was off. I believe that the 235-60-15 tires are recommended as optimal diameter and width for use on stock suspension 3rd gen cars. They shouldn't rub, and are the correct diameter to keep your speedometer accurate. With 16 inch rims, the 245-50-16 is the tire of choice.
For 50 dollars per tire, you aren't going to get a whole lot of high performance, so just shop around and get the best deal you can. These tires won't benefit you much on takeoff, since you probably don't spin much anyway, but they will grip a lot better in the corners, and hopefully stop quicker too since you have more rubber on the road. That is where they will be beneficial.

255/50/16s here. I can honestly say the tires were NOT a waste! Sticks to the ground, hugs the corners, and great take offs!

anyone see anything wrong with these tires?

reading the user reviews people seem pretty happy with them overall. not expecting much out of a 50 dollar tire but for regulare road use i think they'll be fine.

Wow.. I think I just got sold off the BFGs.. those are gonna prolly be the new treads for the V6, since I just picked up a full set of 16" IROC rims for the '88.. for 75 bucks.. with 2 usable tires..
Need to find some treads for the other 16"s first tho.
