suspension overhaul

so after bottoming out big time the other day, i decided i need to replace my 135,000 suspension. im planning on the eibach springs and cut a half coil off the fronts, polyeurethane bushing kit, shocks and struts(not sure what kind is good for a drop), better lower control arms, maybe LCA relocating brackets and adjustable panhard bar. anyone got any other ideas or suggestions as to what i may need and what good brands for shocks/struts? i keep hearing all different kinds that suck, but nothing really thats good. im figuring about $1000 so tell me what you all think. thanks to all.

i would not go with the "polyurithan kit" you might be better off buying off the bushings as you need them...

i just installed kyb shocks and struts...am vary pleased with them, also dont forget when getting new struts you might want to consider strut mounts-yours might be tost..

bigger sway bars help also look into the dealoom bushing..they dont bind up as much in the A arms..like polyurithan do...but polyurithan works fine for me thats what i have....

EDIT sorry about the bad spelling!

I just installed drop zone springs on my 91rs and it was a hugh change. Not so much in the height, because the old springs were so sagged, but the ride was just a lot better. The Panhard bar may not be necessary unless you plan to drag. It is however a good upgrade though. I havent installed one yet and have no problem with wheel hop. Good luck

pezz, how low did you go w/ the drop, how low were the springs supposed put your car? im looking for about 1.5 inches with eibach springs. a few people have gone w/ those and cut a half coil off the fronts, they love the drop.

1.75 inch front drop, 1.5 inch rear drop. I purchased them on ebay from a company in TN. I paid on thursday and them shipped on friday. I have heard from another guy that he cut half a coil from his and they were fine. A lot of others did warn him though. I like the way mine sits now and dont think I would go much lower. The ride has improved 100 percent. I also replaced the rear shocks. Saving to buy some adjustables for the front. I just checked ebay and there are a lot ranging from 80 to 100 bucks.

You want a "good" shock that is qite a step of from the stock shocks, performs well in corners, will last long and still will give a very nice comfortable ride- Tokico "blues". I ran them on the wifes car for years when my kid was little- wanted something that would compensate the 800# front springs but wouldn't rattle the baby's cage. They served there purpose well for about 10 years.

You want all out performance cornering abilities (screw comfort/ thats what Cadillacs are for) then buy Koni's. Nothing better unless you go to a custom application.

Adj panhard rod is almost a necessary when dropping the car because the rear end shifts about an inch (Usually to the right). I don't have one on my car YET, so it's not like you absolutely have to have it, but you definately need one. I'm getting one as soon as the body work is done on my car.

$110

ALSO due to suspension geometry, you'll need LCA relocatoin brackets. They correct the angle at which the LCA's attach to the rear end once you lower the car. I've been told that the car supposedly handles better without them, but it launches better with them.

$65
Also while you're at it, get some LCA's. You'll definately like them. They stiffen the car up a great deal, and help to eliminate wheel hop. In the words of my friend "LCA's and Relocation and you'll hook anytime you need to."

$105

And I'm telling you even though you've heard it OVER AND OVER and just think it's skepticism and people making a big deal out of nothing. GET SFC'S. My convertible now feels 2X as stiff as even my hardtop car was, and yes I still get to drive the hardtop to compare. You'll never regret doing so, I promise.

$185

Bushings all together other than tranny mount should run you in the neighborhood of $80 if you piece them together which you SHOULD especially if you buy the Spohn stuff b/c they come with their own bushing anyways. Remember however, when you switch to polyurethane, you have to use a different type chassis grease.

$80

So that's everything that I know about....I have no clue as to which shocks or struts to use. BTW, also look into finding a STB....it helped my V6 out a lot. If you can find a Jamex one you should be able to pick it up cheap.

Xceleramato...if you could correct your spelling, I'm interested in what you posted....I just can't understand it.

STB= Strut/Shock Tower Brace

The grease is specifically Marine Grease used in the Boating Industry.
Commonly referred as Whale Snot!
DO NOT grease the bushings before one goes on a date with a Lady.
NEVER undergrease a Poly Bushing.
Always use MORE than ya think ya should.
Or you'll regret it rest of vehicle ownership.

Suspension Techniques springs are made by Bell Tech, so they'll be good quality - http://www.belltechcorp.com . If you do a for "Suspension Techniques" on the "V6 Forum", you should be able to find some messages.

Also, don't forget about the wear parts... "wear parts" meaning parts that wear out over time. For us f-body guys, those parts are the center link and the idler arm. Through http://www.summitracing.com -

Center Link, MOG-DS1049
Idler Arm, MOG-K6249

Those part #s are for Moog parts; use Summit's part # lookup to get prices.

Like Xcelerate said, you can probably do better by buying only the bushings you need instead of a whole kit. If you buy Energy Suspension bushings, get them in black, with the "G" after the part #; they'll have graphite in the polyurethane.

We did all of the above & also got new tierod ends. (stock replacements)
I got energy suspension polyurathane bushing for them as well.

We bought the bushings in pieces since the Herb Adams Adj Panhard did not need them, nor did the Granatelli lower control arms (came with them)...

Shocks and struts are KYB, I'm happy with them!

To save $ on the sway bars I got some TA ones from a junk yard and got the E.S. bushings.

The SFC you can't go wrong with. I went with Spohn!

Stay away from the edlebrock STB...it does not clear the hood good enough!

Eibach with a half a coil cut off the front...yep thats me!

A suspension overhaul is a MUST if you want to have that
Camaro to handle well! Here's what I have done so far....

1) Spohn chrome moly panhard bar and
lower control arms
2) Spohn 1 5/16" front - 1" rear sway bar kits
3) Jeg's subframe connectors ( bolt on, eventually will weld in)
4) KYB shocks and struts
5) Every single rubber bushing replaced with
polyurethane

Handling and launching improved 100%!!!

what's next:

1) Hotchkis 1" lowering springs ( will work on V6 equipped
vehicles , just does not lower much )
2) complete front end overhaul
3) front brake overhaul

P.S. Would like a strut tower brace for my car, but
what brand would work on a V6?????

Yeah, but I don't think Jamex makes them anymore.

Any other ones that will fit on top of a 60* V6?

WOW, nice looking motor AGood2.8!

I take it that your replacing the stock TB with that
ported aftermarket one? And what's the other thing
there?

Hey, let me know if that throttle body will do any
changes to your motor. Like power, idle, etc.

Thank you.

Its not going on this motor- Check this link for more info:https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=173317

The part sitting on the upper left of the STB is a 200amp Powermaster alt that went on for about one week and came bact off because of interference with the underneath side of the STB under hard engine twist- I can't space the STB upward or it will make contact with the hood.( STB needs to be aprox 1/4"to 1/2" higher because of the 200amp alts larger housing- I'm just going to use it on my truck instead, and put a 140amp unit on the Camaro.)
