volvo turbo?

hey, i found a turbo and intercooler set for sale from a 81-85 volvo. does anyone have any idea how big this turbo is and if it would be worth buying?
i have a 87 camaro 2.8-3.4 swap done and was SERIOUSLY thinking about a turbo swap. i know the piping is a major setback but i work at a machine shop so that would be no problem. one thing is, i dont know what to do with the electronics. i have no idea whats involved with that so while you're at it, can anyone help me out in that department too?

I would recomend checking out some Fiero sites. They would have more info on turboing the 60* block as no one else here has ever done it.

Ya, everyone wants to try supercharging or turbocharging the V6, but no one's sucker enough to spend the money and time.

Doward said he was going to do a turbo setup for $290 I don't know if he's still going to do it. He has the turbo that's all I know but I still haven't seen any pics.

Yep, sorry guys no pics yet. Have to send the injectors in for cleaning.

Total spent so far -

$1.25 for 19pph injectors
$50 Turbo (Garrett T3)

I'm working straight till next Saturday. I SHOULD have the prototype exhaust layout setup then, and I'll get pics. Going Thursday to pic up the piping.

Still have to do the injectors, chip, and get a BOV tho.

Well here is an excerpt from a webpage I found:
Turbo name: Garrett T3 turbo
Notes: Large turbo causing a 'turbo lag'.
Cars that use this turbo: (1981 240 GLT Turbo (USA)) (1982 240 GLT Turbo (USA)) (1983 240 GLT Turbo (USA)) (1984 240 GLT Turbo (USA))
This webpage where I found that information and has lots of turbo information about the Volvos:
http://engphys.mcmaster.ca/~bill/vol...rbos.htm#Turbo

I'm happy to hear about all you guys venturing into the turbo. If it can be done I'd sure as heck do it too! So I'm willin' to do whatever I can to help you guys!

Gotta agree with WWasem. Anyone who's willing to give it an honest try will get all the help he/she wants from this forum.

I was actually thinking one time that you could just turn the exhaust manifolds upside down and switch sides and mount the turbo right to them that way. Just as a test of course. Obviously wouldn't give optimum flow, but would work for testing, plus it would give you a "mount" for the turbo.

Ya. If someone could just come up with a cost effective way of put a small amount of boost, at least that would be a start.

I just read a post the other day about the header switching thing. There is a different spacing issue between the sides.

I think it might have been in this post?

I got the guy's computer last night... all fixed, and gonna bring it back to him tonight.

Getting a 14b Mitsu and intercooler for the work I did... hopefully, I'll have pics within a couple days!

Dennis LaGrua is a guy in NJ who turboed his 2.8L Fiero. He has a pretty detailed site on how he did it. Since I'm not at home, do a search for "fiero secrets" and a massive page of lnks should come up as one of your top pics. It's included there.

Pontiac also had in the early 90's a Turbocharged 3.1Lin the Grand Prix that very few know about. I ran across one in the yard not too long ago, but the motor was gone.

you have a PM. Back On topic, another good link to try is www.fiero.nl I'm building up a 1985 Fiero GT and am selling an 87 Blue coupe and 86 red v6 sport coupe. The fiero guys are friendly and can give you any info you'd want.

It is crazy the amount of different engines the Fiero guys can slam into those cars, Northstar V8s, TPI V8, 3800 V6 S/C, Yet they have a smaller compartment in the rear then we do!?
