Question from a newbie

My car is an 1989 camaro Rs 2.8l V6 this stupid thing cant even chirp the tires. So I am thinking about converting to a T-5 tranny. But for now I am going to add a dynomax superturbo exhaust and thats all that I can find for the 2.8 engine. Can you guys help me along trying to find bolt on accessories that can give me alittle more power. Are the any headers out there for this engine. My future plans for the car is a 327 V-8 swap with around 380hp. i don't want to go into the V6 engine I.E. cams, intake manifold, etc..Do any of you know what it takes to do this V-8 conversion. any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the board.

Just click on the search button to your right. There are tons of posts on V-8 swaps etc.

Headers, no comapny makes them, so its either E-bay, or some guy makes them. Once again use the search.

Honestly, if plans are a v8 later. I wouldnt invest to much money in the v6, that wont swap to a v8.

I wouldnt even waist time/money dropping a t5 in, cause it wont swap to that v8.

Cat-back will swap, and ignition coil, ICM, dual fans, then start working on supsension stuff tell its time to work on the v8.

Why wouldn't that tranny bolt up to that engine. Lakewood makes a bellhousing that fits 58-80 small block chevys. If it is a matter fof strength then I will get a set of G-forces new gear sets.

Bellhousing on my T5 for my s10 is part of the case. Not changeable. I thought the one for the camaro was same.

Most T5 transmissions have a separate bellhousing. The problem doesn't come from the bellhousing, or even the gears really (though they'll shatter just as fast), but the input shaft itself. Doesn't really matter anyway, though. With that kinda motor you're likely to nuke even a TPI car's T5 in no time. They're just not rated for that kinda power (seen a stock L98/T5 combo lately?).

If you just want to chirp the tires with the engine you have now...try Tomp's tune up first if you haven't already and maybe some decarbonizing if the tune up doesn't help. I know there are posts about both of them.

I don't really know if you'll be able to chirp them after you do those things since my engine runs on about 4 and a half cylinders but I would guess you could.
