CAI... i dont get it..

ok, so i dont get how a cai on a 3rd gen camaro can be any better, wouldnt you have better flow with the stock instake setup? or is it the intake tube that is the bottleneck for it,.... cause i cant see the cai getting any better airflow unless you place it down lower than the holes in the fornt bumper, but you are bound to have problems down that low

see attached pictures

You've got a dual snorkel.. keep it. It's a great setup...just...if you don't have to worry about LOTS of rain...and undercarriage car washes...cut all the bottom sections out....they act as baffles to keep water out but they also restrict airflow.

CAI setups have tended to be, on here, primarily for the 90-92 cars (the 3.1's) because of their stock restrictive setup. Intake arm coming out of the throttle body, does a right angle to the passenger side, and a right angle down attaching to a canister housing a cylindrical filter that allows air into the engine through a hole about 1 inch in diameter. The engine pulls air in through a hole smaller than the throttle body...and about the same size as the throttle blade itself. THAT'S why we build CAI's!

I didn't get it either. Thanks for clearing that up, Nixon!

This is a lil off subject but i love that color. Hugger orange, my bro used to have an S-10 lowrider that was that same color. I remember he said it was one of the colors of the original camaros. I said that before they discontinued them they should'v made the new f-bodies one year only come in the original colors like hugger orange, metalic blue etc....AT

That would've been a good idea.... GM did a lot of things wrong. Like that new vette...the 50th anniversary... So much potential to make a badass limited edition car, and what do they do? Purple-ish and leather. And a badge or two. Wow. Amazing.

Supposedly, the 85-89 Camaro (v6 MPFI and v8 TPI) dual-snorkel setup puts the air filters in a high pressure area, making them even more efficient. Supposedly, 90-92 Camaro owners can bolt in the 85-89 intake setup; but us 85-92 Firebird owners are screwed. The hood slopes too closely to the rad support to allow use of the Camaro intake.

i dont know if anyone said anything, but you could use aluminum duckting and make a "ram air" set up and it could pic up air coming from where the fog lights are. The stock y snorkle does flow great with KN's and gutted air box. The ram air hooks up right under the filter and have it duct nice, cool air....

Car Craft did a column on the functional ram air mod. replaced the fog lights (for those who had them) w/air intake, used some pvc pipes & bends to make shoot straight intothe dual snorkel thing.

THose camaros, always needing more to keep up w/the Firebirds
