bought my bird!!!

so, i looked at the car. the engine was not new, it was rebuilt. it does have a new clutch. the t-tops dont leak. engine runs great, oil was so clean you could make a salad dressing with it!!! also, engine is not stock. it has been bored by .03 it has an aftermarket cam. and flat topped pistons. new radiator, new harmonic balancer, new throw out bering. suspension is heavily modified!!! so tight you can feel the tires flex before you get any body roll. sway bars are tight!!! springs are stiff as can be, i think it might actually be to stiff.

now for broken stuff:
headliner needs replacement. drivers side mirror is broken,( no adjustmet, flops in the wind), no antena, shocs on hood and hatch are bad. rear cargo straps missing. t-top bag missing. center console has sun damage, doors rattle, has original tape deck w/ original speakers. right turnsignal does not blink. drivers side window does note quite seal, cruise control busted, windshield washer fluid pump no work, think thats it.

other details: car has ugliest rims i have ever seen on firebird, will post a picture tomorow or next day. seats have always been covered. are in like new condition with exeption of a burn in the back one and a tear in front drivers side. has split folddown rear set and no cargo cover. paid $2,000. has 124,000 miles. 11k since re-build. have recipts for clutch, new tire, radiator, and a buch of other random parts (just shows numbers). think thats it. anny other questins ask

Sounds like you got a good deal, if the suspension is already set up... take pics. Look under the car, and post pics of the rear end, front end, all over. Get a pic from underneath, too! Maybe one of us can see if it's just new OEM suspension, or actual upgraded suspension!

Sounds like a good score!

lol... no, I mean actual tire size -

I know just going from my stock 215/65/15s to IROC 245/50/16s made a HUGE difference in corner huggin!

newbie question!!!
what are rollers/rockers? i always thought rockers wer those things that moved the valves on an engine without an overhead cam.

also:
i know the crank shaft is the one the pistons conect to. and prety sure the cam shaft is the one that hits the valves to make them go down int the cylinder. ut i am unclear as to the term "floating a valve" is this when a valve, for some reason stays open and gets smacked by a piston causing a chain reaction destroying your engine?

Not to rain on your parade, but it sounds to me like you're runnin' on shot shocks and struts. My car used to ride like that. I always thought "well it's a sports car, not a Cadilliac so you can expect a rougher ride" well ends up after I took my shocks out that they were the stock ones and COMPLETELY shot. My car used to always bottom out on everything, and actually becuase of them being so shot it actually droped the ride height of my car overall. I bought new Bilsteins and now it rides sweet and I hadly ever bottom out. (I still slow down, I still don't drive an SUV here...) But you get the idea.

Definately take some pics and post them and we'll all be able to most likely identify all the parts. Congrats on gettin' a thirdgen!! You'll never regret it!

you know whats messed up?.... the main reason i convinced my self to loose the SUV was becouse i did NOT likle slowing down for speed bumps. that charokee has tighter suspension for towing you hit a speedbump fine w/front, but the rear will get air.

Xophertony - Looks nice, but we'd all love to see more pics! Only thing to remember is don't attach more then 3 pictures per thread, they put in a new policy about that. I'm not sure if it applies to only the appearance board or not though...

Edit: Here is the tread I am talking about

Total price....$350.00 CDN...about $200.00 US...all I wanted was the tranny...now it looks like it'll be a his'n'hers....with a 400 stroker in the TA...

Them are some smokie and bandit rims. And I think they look quite decent on it. Better then some of the others I have seen. However, they do need some cleaning up.

Nice, your right tho, the rims are ugly++

I dont even think cleaning them will help Leave em to the 2nd gens.

And your front ride hight looks a little low... bad springs and shocks maybe. (like mentioned earlier)

Anyone thought of cut springs, with worn shocks? That's my bet.

You think those snowflakes are ugly? Man, where do you think the design for the 16x8 crosslace T/A wheels cam from?

Personally, I'd rather have the crosslaces, since you can get better tires in 16" A good clean/strip/polish, and those wheels would look sharp.

post a pic of the camero rims if i like i might consider a trade. if not i could alaways convert the hubs to four spoke honda pattern and get some gold knock offs w/100 spokers.

Haha yeah I was just going to yell "The snowflake rims!!" but Doward beat me to it. Just go to http://www.ebay.com and do a "power search" for "snowflake wheels" for completed items... those things sell for a hell of a price.

Got a friend who got an '82 s10 pickup with a 350 dropped in, he was laughing at the rims- I was like Hey, the snowflakes!!

[edit] Forgot about the topic of the message. Very nice looking car; the body looks perfect.

Heh, some previous owner did that to mine as well. So I have to drive really slow at an angle over them bumps. That and I don't want to raise the cat anymore.

Sounds like you got a 1 stage paint job on her. Thats what I did to my 85. Now you can wet sand the car without worrying about sanding thru the clear and same goes with buffing as well

Wetsand, buff, then clear coat it!

Wax it every week, and she'll shine for ages!

heh... sorry TomP...

Now, the rims on your car now are the standard snowflakes. 15x7" The gold ones you posted a pic of, are the WS/6 15x8" rims. Notice the lip on the gold ones, that you don't have?

Yes, those snowflakes can go for a pretty penny. My 15" Camaro rims look like these -

http://i.b5z.net/i/ui/74360/i/Z28wheels.jpg

I don't have 4 good center caps tho... not that you'd want them - they say 'Camaro'

Hey TomP, you ever get people that call the honeycomb's snowflakes, and vise versa? I get it all the time...

I believe you are referring to the wheels style I have on mine.
I'm envious, pretty ride.
I can't wait to fix the front end on my Firebird.
I already fixed the back bumper, was easy. Replaced it!

You want to go to www.slponline.com

Street Legal Performance
has your wheel option at a GREAT PRICE!

Those snowflake wheels are worth a VERY PRETTY PENNY.
Even size 15 x 7.
Yeah that's a wonderful car those belong on!
Ugly, well... No, not at all.
If ya saw the total Firebird package, those wheels are the right touch.

Eagle One makes a great wheel cleaner for those wheels.

I think the snow flake wheels look good on your car. A good trick if ya cant get them to shine is to paint them with DH1606 and lightly sand the outside edge back to aluminum base then clear coat them. Does work quite well and lasts a long time. Aftermart you cant beat the Hellcat series. I can tell the right side is lower then the left, id check the struts and springs. Same shade of white as my bird also Dupont single stage pre-mixed.

Ked man, you need a spolier you back half is naked

those gold wheels i posted are stupid. i would never say bling bling if i was not joking. also the highest price i saw on ebay was 400 for all four of the snowflake rims, is that good?

so you can clear coat a car thats allready been painted... my dad told be to ask yall. while i am at it should i add another coat of white and do some rust clean up. there are two spots where i have body rust, one is on the right cquarter pannel where it meats the door ( door not scraping i already checked.) and the other is where the antena mount used to be, is there anny cap or plug i can get to seal that up? also. how much do turbocast rims go for? i could not find them at that website.

these are turbo cast rims:

SLP sells the factory optional wheels take offs with tires of the 4th gen cars for DIRTCHEAP!
I really like the car the way it is, minus spoiler.
I am seeking a center section, taillight panel, tho.
One day after I retire again, I'll take a better pic of the Firebird at the beach. Maybe in 4 more weeks or less.
My Firebird wheels are the factory optional turbo styled wheels.

Your other pictures do not show up.
First two wheel pics, do.
My 15 x 7 Turbo wheels are made by Superior Industries for Pontiac Motor Division, as are the 16" x 8" size of the first pic of yours. They were optional on the Firebirds. On the Trans Ams I believe. I use those WS6 Center caps on my wheels, looks pretty.
IF ya got another name for my wheels, please say so.
I used to call them, Pinwheel style.
Yet, turbo is probably correct name for my factory optional ones.
My factory build sheet calls them out as the Y99 Wheel package combined with the F41 suspension
IF ya know another name, please say so, love to hear it!
I'm seeking the Firebird White Book & the 1985 Firebird sale brochure for the fun of it facts.
I found my 85 Firebird factory build/birth sheet under driver side, back seat cushion.
Not saying yours'll be there, but who knows.
BUT SLP has brand new F body Firebird take offs for about $400-$600 & they look like other wheel shown first time.

Well at least you guys have 15+ rims and not the 14's my car was cursed with. Even though my wheels are nicer then all but one other style in 82 IMO.

Yes you can clear coat a single stage paint job but beware some paints can react bad to clear coat or vise versa and it will ruin the paint. Ive seen some where the clear coat actually bubbled up the paint under it and some where the clear would not stick and durring the cure scrunched up like a wrinkled paper bag.

another newbie question. what is the intake plenium and what does it do???

still::
what are rollers/rockers? i always thought rockers wer those things that moved the valves on an engine without an overhead cam.

i know the crank shaft is the one the pistons conect to. and prety sure the cam shaft is the one that hits the valves to make them go down int the cylinder. ut i am unclear as to the term "floating a valve" is this when a valve, for some reason stays open and gets smacked by a piston causing a chain reaction destroying your engine?
