Extra bonus from the suspension swap- CHIRP!
Wow, very cool... checked the pressure in my tires yesterday, all were around 34-35. Forgot to check them since it actually turned into summer weather! Put 'em all at 32 psi; and now I can chirp on the 1-2 WOT upshift! Not too bad for a +252,000 mile 2.8 with P245/60r15's on the rear!!
Funny how it'd never do that before, in cold weather, with the previous rear suspension.

Did ya box anything off while you were under there???
Think I'm gonna atleast box my LCA's off and make some sub frame connectors.

Hey TomP, I can't even do that with my 3.1 liter car! That is great. I bet the handling is really good, too. Sorry I haven't been around here in a while. They switched us over to a new e-mail and internet service at work, and they have blocked any type of site that has a message board attached to it. I now have to do this on this extremely slow dial up network.

Tom, right after reading ur post i went and checked my pressure...summer took effect and i was running a lofty 38lbs on the backs while 36 was in the front...took em all to 32lbs and yep, chirps are much easier for me to accomplish once again than they had been...i was startin to worry that the tranny was losing it's neck snapping ability....LOL.

Oh and Matt I didn't box anything yet; the rear suspension is still stock besides the springs and shocks. I've still gotta put the poly stuff on.
I figure I'll box the lca's first, then put the poly in; then I don't have to worry about crushing the control arm's u-channel into a v-channel!
Plus then I can paint the welds from the inside, with a lonnng paint brush!
I had considered making my own SFC's, but man, those Alston's sure look nice. I like the way they tie into the subframe endpoints. I also like the fact that I can bolt them in and -then- weld them on. I could probably bolt them in without raising the car; then I could raise the car up and not worry about the chassis sagging funny or anything, and just weld 'em on. And I think I'm going to take out the "temporary" bolts, and then weld around the perimeter of the bolt holes, to make the join between the subframes and connectors even stronger. And again, I could probably paint the welds from the inside via those bolt holes with a long thin brush.

I boxed my LCA today and stuck a steel pipe in my pan hard bar. Welding with flux core upside down is not fun. I am sure glad I didn't shower this morning when the firery hot piece of slag did a swish down my ear as I heard the wax and dirt put it out. Trashed a good tarp and got burnt lots but I hope it was worth it.
I am to bush to even try or think about the sfc's now but they are top on the list.
I got pics up in my back half thread.

My buddy who was with me just kept saying did it just???
Yes it did and it kept doing it.
It was one of those thing you don't even talk about as it was so confusing, to him anyways.

and TBI has really bad throttle response, that might be the problem.
2.8 has MPFI, nice throttle response.

Without it, it would be just a plain old boaring 2.8.
Which is what most poeple remember and judge the 2.8 by.

What size are your rear tires? Are they over/underinflated? Is your TV cable adjusted properly?
Plus, too, I could never chirp the back until I rebuilt the whole suspension; granted, the rear just got lowering springs and KYB gas-a-just shocks, but I guess it was enough.

44 pounds? Woah, sounds pretty high to me; look above the inside "door jamb" on your driver's side, on the door there should be a little sticker with recommended inflation. You might have your tires at their max PSI. You can verify over/underinflation by the treadwear, too. Overinflated tires will wear out the center of the tread more then the sides. Underinflated tires will wear out the sides of the tread, and the center will be thick.

Yep, if you follow the door jam PSi ratings. You will end up with a much nicer ride. If you go by max tire PSI it can make that car feel a bit rough.
My wagon is 26 front 36 rear, and man does it drive so nice like that.
I will admit that I have not done this on my Bird yet. My max PSI is 52 on my dunlops. I like running 40+ but its like driveing a gocart all the time as you feel every piece of sand on the road, let alone every bump and crack.
Higher PSI should mean better mileage, like on a 10speed how they run 80psi tires for less rolling restance and easier peddling.
But does that work on a car???

Z28xxx sounds like ur line pressure isn't holding until the shift, cause there's no reason that your car shouldn't be sideways into second gear. My tranny setup is in my sig, and the day i picked it up after the rebuild i was barking with a 1-2 shift, before i actually picked the car up i asked the guy if it shifted firm...he gave this sinister lil' smile with a nod then said "yep, like a rock but just enough without being a timebomb."

I don't think that chirping 2nd is an indicator of a lot of power and poor traction etc. Seems to me it's different for every car and thus there are a lot of factors to consider. My mom's civic will chirp 2nd easily and my '84 Firebird chirped 2nd and 3rd with an LG4.
However, my '97 Camaro with a 3.8 hasn't chirped 2nd yet, but if I'm not careful with the throttle, I will spin myself around on a launch... I have 275 G-force KDW's on all 4 corners.

In fact, I also have the Megashifter, the B&M 4-3 kickdown valve, a remote trans filter, and a Supercooler- but those shouldn't affect anything.

ANYTHING over half throttle my 305 gets a HEALTHY scratch when the trans is at normal temp. When it starts getting warm (I really need a cooler) it will only do it at 3/4 throttle or more.
I went around a corner the other day and got on it...and as each tire stopped spinning, they individually got a chirp, then it shifted into 2nd and another...so all you heard other than my Borla was
Chirp, chirp.........chirp. It was kinda funny.

be nice gumby....that's not a bad looking car devil's ad, tons of work done to it too, hopefully you did fill in that gutted cat with a piece of pipe so you don't disturb the airflow of your exhaust (does more harm than good), i'm not a big fan of a white thirdgen however, but that's cool and all, not a bad site either the pic of the girl and the back of the camaro leaves me wondering which tailend is nicer but past all that do you have times for your car? just curious as to what your running, despite the fact that i know it's better than any thirdgen v6 out there excluding the turbo t/a of course? And also, i wanted to say that i hope the 383 swap works out for ya, cause highly modifying a 305 seems just about as pointless as say modding a boat anchor v6 doesn't it? Guess you could say that we're less since we often have base model cars too, but then again as far as most are concerned so do you....Z28's and IROC's are still holding top honors.
