Stock coil voltage

Stock coil voltage

What's the stock coil voltage for the 2.8? I just bought a 48,000 volt MSD coil that I will put in next weekend. I also bought a brand new distributor with a new module. That's gonna be awesome.

is this really beneficial on a stock engine without upgrading the module as well? will a stock cap/rotor/wires be able to handle an aftermarket coil?

I don't believe it really matters what module you have, but in any case I have a brand new one on my brand new distributor.

Also, I believe TomP said that Delco plugs will stand up to the higher voltages of after market coils, so that's what I got. I'm not positive that's what he said, but I'm sure he'll wander over to this thread and tell us all we need to know.

Axle/Gears: A weak one & a chained one
No doubt that the wires and cap and rotor and all should be able to handle the extra voltage...as long as they're in good shape. If the cap and rotor terminals are corroded...then this will of course reduce your ignition's power by the time it gets to the plugs. Same with the wires...if they're old and toasted out. In what I've seen, replacing a worn cap and rotor will generally make a bigger difference than replacing decent plugwires with high performance ones. I put my MSD wires on and barely noticed a difference. Put the new cap and rotor on and the car idled smoother and the throttle response was better.
