soon to be leavin the v-6 ranks...

got my oil changed at jiffy-lube today (i normally do it myself but i had a free coupon and there's one in my parking lot at work so i just pulled it over there during lunch). the attendant walks up lookin at my car and goes "sweet ride" and i said "thanks man". well i get out and walk up to the computer with him, and he's enterin my car info and we get to engine size. he scrolls to the bottom of the list and clicks the last one, saying "5.7, right?" and goes to the next page. "i was like 'uhh, well its actually the first one" and he goes "what? 3.1?"......

so yeah, it's definetly time for a new car....i wanted to put a new engine and tranny in mine just so i could keep my baby, but its proving too costly. so after 8 months of searching, i finally found what i wanted from a guy in texas...i'll have an '83 Z28 with a 400sb in 2 or 3 weekends when our schedules work out to meet halfway. so i'll soon be leavin the v-6 board ....too bad, yall are by far the most helpful and friendliest board on here...

but soon i'll be , woohoo!!

Lol, that is funny. Leaving the v6 because of slight embarrasement. I know how you feel. I go to shops and they say what engine "5.7l or 5.0" Then I have to shamefully say say 2.8l.

I'm going to continue to keep my 2.8l, but I don't plan on spending nearly as much money as I wanted to. I'm looking to join the V8 club myself as soon as I can get some money together for one. (no V8 swap, just going to buy a V8 car).

The 400sb 83 Z sounds great. Gonna have lots of fun with it.

lol, i guess from my first post it seems like that is the reason i'm getting a new car. but when i bought the car last may, i had full intentions of giving it v-8 power, but as most things go, things didn't go according to plan...i actually have been plannin on buying the car i mentioned for the past week or two....today just further convinced me that it really is time for the 6-banger to go

i want to keep my car, partly out of sentimental value, and partly because it'd just be cool to say i own 2 3rd gen camaros. but i can't afford insurance on 2 cars, and once i get the new one, i don't know when i'd ever drive the old one anyway. i'll be sure to take plenty of pics of both cars side by side....i can still say that at one point i owned 2 3rd gen camaro!!

The V8 is nice, but you will never forget your 3.1... I wish I kept my 2.8.. It was more fun... Why, easier to work on, the body lines were nicer and it was me.. My new z is great.. Wicked fast, but it is not my ride.

Just because you sell the 6, doesn't mean you have to leave. I've been through about 2-3 V8 cars and am still around. Yo'll just broaden th aknowledge database and prove that not all V8 people are trolls

btw, good luck on the new ride, and does it still have the cross-fire injection in it?

haha, my front bumper, when i bought the car, it had a plate on the front that said "Georgia's a Peach" or something just plain awful like that with a picture of a peach in the middle of it. i wanted to just take it off, but it left bolt holes, so i had to replace it with something

naw it doesn't have crossfire injection...i wouldn't be buying it if it had that!! it's a carbed 400

yeah i love the styling on the 91-92 camaros....the guy put on a set of '85 gfx, and they're body color (black) but they're chipped up, so i'll probably look around and see if i can get some 91-92 gfx and high-rise spoiler for decently cheap.

Funny you say you have been through 2-3 V8s and are still around.. I have sold my 2.8 and I am back... Something about that darn car and engine.... It just has something my 1997 Z dosen't... I would love to get a Blue 86-89 2.8 RS Stick.. I had the auto, but would love to try that car a stick...

Anybody have a blue one for sale super cheap or for trade.. Would prefer it if had GFX this time..

I love my 2.8 and I think I'll keep it forever. But if I ever see a 1987 metallic blue IROC with a 5 speed, t-tops, and TPI for a good price, you better believe I'll buy it in a second.

I don't understand how yall can love the 2.8 - I absoultly hated the one I had. No power horrible gas mileage and the darn thing burned a gallon of oil every 2 weels. The one in my buddie's camaro wasn't mugh better and I just blowded up one in a lumina. IMO the 60* v6 is just a weak design.

that's what's so cool about saying" Yeah, I put in a 93/94/95 motor in it. yeah it's still a six. Pretty cool, huh?!" I have 3 V-6 motors now, 4.3, 3800, 3.4. When the birds been on the road for a little, I'll give a comparison report.

Dude I ran great... Ran 16.01 and ran a 15.9... Got great mileage and had loads of fun with it....

Would buy one again in a second... Just would like a metallica blue t-top RS so I can hop it up instead of my Z....

I love my V-6!! Its alot faster than people expect, it looks real nice, t-tops, 5 speed, etc. Its a blast to drive.

I have a bud whom I gave my old S-10 truck a few years ago. Its got a 2.8. Were always in constant competition

I also have a 3.1 V6 and I like it. Would I buy another V6 car? No, but still it isn't a bad engine. The V6's are more powerful than most people think, but only if they're well kept.

I bought my car from the original owner who always had it maintained at the dealership and it will beat a 305 tbi that was abused before. The car has ~26000 miles now, no rust at all and a perfect interior, so I paid way more than it's worth, but it is really hard to find 10+ year old cars in this condition.
