That was the first and last time I let a friend drive. (except for my BEST friend whom I trust completley, and hes never beat on my car, EVER.)

Anywho, ever since he did that I notice that my car now smokes a little bit when it starts. What do you think the chances are that he damaged a ring? Could it be a headgasket? The coolant looked a little bubbly, but I burped the system good and it went away.

And yes, he received a stern ***-chewing. :nono:

On a lighter note, we had a funny conversation:

Me: "Dont ever take it to redline!!"
Me: "This isnt fast and the furious, a stock SBC with 112k doesnt spin to 7,000 rpms!"
Him: "Then how do you dragrace?"
Me: "YOU DONT"

i let a friend drive mine once, he begged and begged to take it to get some girl with another guy. i said alright figuring i could trust him. i tell him DONT HOT ROD IN THIS CAR! he is always hot roddin in his old VW's. well half hour goes by when he said hed be back in 10 min. he gets back and says, this thing can get up too 100 pretty quick

but he didnt hurt anything, thank g0d. maybe u just never notice the smokey start up? or he just put a lil extra wear on the valve seals? dont think its anything serious

He probably just pushed the valve seals over the final, eventual edge.

Thinking about your problem. I wonder if maybe the redline shift was the last straw for an aling valve seal. THe pressure would be enough to pop a cracked seal. Its the exhaust ones most times as you will not notice any soot on the plugs cause its leaks down the stem and right out.

I let my bro drive my old T/A once when he was back on leave. He litteraly destoyed the clutch plate, just a metal fin left. He's never driven a car of mine again.

good luck, & yeah, sounds like valve stem seals.

whoa, thats just bad carma. theres no reason to go that far. i agree with everyone else, it was probably just the piece of straw that broke the donkeys back. it was bound to happen annyway....

of curse on the other hand.. ...no single raindrop believes it's responsible for the flood

Well, I guess he will have to help me pull me heads. (I think I can trust him to do that at least.)

Just a thought, but why are you pulling the heads?

if you are doing that you probly have access to an air compressor.

fill the cyl with air, holds the valve up... and can save you about 3-4 hours of time.

If that is not your thing, get a 500 foot roll of thing string. Take the piston to BDC(bottom dead center) and fill. turn crank top push thread onto bottom of valves.

I always do the air thing, unless the head is off for something else. A real time saver.
EDIT: If oyur wondering what to use to get the air in the Cyl, leak down tester hose...

The reason I mentioned pulling the heads is because I had always wanted to do a valvejob anyways, and it gives me a good excuse.

I'll try the air thing. Thanks for the advice.

A month before my transmission went the first time i let my friend borrow it he was goign to drivie it less then 5 miles to pick up some girl he liked. I got the car back everything seemed ok then i went to drive it and my tranny made some werid *** noise every time it shifted gears. I asked him what the hell he did he was all i decided to impress her so i put you car in N and reved it up and threw it in drive. A month later my tranny destroyed it self the yoke was destroyed the rear seal blew out it was smoking and to top it off as it was getting rebuilt he bent the driveshaft. And who got to pay the bill ME!!!!!! I dont even trust my mom to drive my car and she drievs the speedlimit.

*shrug* I have a valve stem that leaks a little on a hot engine start up, but not cold. Dosn't seem to be that big of an issue for me at the moment. I figure, when oil really starts to burn at a constant, then it's time for a valve job. Yet, I'll probably just drop in a 3.4L and take car of it all in one shot. At the moment (the past 5 years actucally), it'll burn a little for a 2nd or two at start up when the engine is hot, and that's that. Plugs always seem to look good as well. So like someone said earlier, just out of an exhaust valve for me.
