my first 6 cyl.
I hang out mainly on the tbi boards due to my 91 RS with a 305 TBI. However I just picked up an 89 with a six. This car is in okay shape, eith a little rust on the rear quarters.
It has been sitting in a garage for 4 years and only started a couple of times. This is a base model camaro with only power steering, brakes and air.
But hey I picked it up for 200.00, not bad. I am going to drain all the fluids out this weekend, pull the injectors and soak in some cleaner over night. Anything else you guys can think of before I start it.
1. oil
2. gas
3. tranny fluid
4. coolant.
After I get it home then I am going to do a full tune up. Because it had been in a dimly lit garage, I stiil don't know the full extent of it's condition, but it seems to be pretty good. Like I said the body had small rust on it but the rest of is seems to be pretty good. Interior is in good shape.

Since you've got two cars, you might want to send the v6's injectors out to http://www.cruizinperformance.com for a full cleaning and flow testing. Also send him the "cold start valve"; this is a 7th injector (found on 85-89 2.8 MPFI's and V8 TPI's) that sticks into the back of the intake manifold. His service is so ridiculously cheap for such great work that it's amazing!!
Remember when you check your timing that the #1 cylinder on a 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6 is the frontmost PASSENGER side- opposite of a v8.
Some other things that come to mind v6 MPFI vs v8 TBI ... 2.8 has no knock sensor, 2.8 has a mass air flow sensor to measure incoming air that's located in the air ducting to the throttle body, throttle body has an IAC motor whose "pintle tip" gets dirty really fast and affects idle quality.
As a bonus, as you learn the MPFI system, you'll also be learning (almost exactly) a V8 TPI system! In fact we can use any ignition part for a v8 with a "remote coil HEI" distributor! Your '91 has the remote coil setup, right?

Yes I have th remote coil. I will probably send the injectors out, right now I need to get it started so I can move it and get it home about 5 miles.
I knew the mfpi was similiar to the TPI systems and other types more advanced FI than my dinasour. I am really lookin' forward to this car. Can't promise it will stay a 65 popper though, they just don't sound right. LOL
