timing

I need to set my timing and what is good for the 2.8 85 camaro. Did a search and really didn't find anything. Is top dead center good or should I back it off?

I've got an '86 and spec is 10°. I usually advance it 2° to 12°BTDC, but right now I'm having timing issues.

Your car wont run at 0 degrees of advance. As they said, 10 degrees of advance is stock. 12 degrees is good for some extra pep, although the car might run funny on 87 octane, depending. 89 would work good for that though.

Ha. Mine only runs at 0 deg TDC, but I guess that newer ECM should help fix that, and the running super lean, and the fact that the engine only runs with the MAF disconnected, and maybe that Code 54 that's been bugging me too....

If your car only runs at 0°, then either your engine is seriously messed, or there's something wrong with your timing marks.

Like I said, the ECM is junked. I'm searching for a newer one on eBay right now... plus, I'll have to check the marks too when I get the time and money, I ain't sure they are right, but that's what it said when I made the rotor marks with the #1 terminal when I removed the distributor, so that's anyone's guess...
