clutch replacement - flywheel

Should I resurface the flywheel when changing the clutch? Why?

Yes, I always do, in fact I'm putting my new clutch in tommorrow with a resurfaced flywheel.

When you replace the clutch with a new disc, it will need to seat itself, instead of trying to seat into what has already been worn by the previous clutch disc. Same as when replacing brakes.

Absolutely. You'll get better wear-in and a better feel.

I will be honest and say I didn't have mine done. BUt it looked good, felt smooth and was just more money I didn't have.

$125 new tranny
$120+ clutch kit
$35-40ish clutch slave cylinder n new fluid
$10-15 hi temp neon green paint

I had to cut a corner some where. If ya got the time and the cash, Id get it done just for the hell of it. If it looks good and is smooth with no stress cracks you could let it go like I did.

Like Gumby said, if you don't have the money you can skip it. I mean you can put new brake pads on and not machine the rotors, and you can put a new clutch in and no machine the flywheel, but if you have the money, definitely do it.

Anywhere sith a machine shop can do it. Find somewhere that does clutch jobs and you're set, they have got to have one, you know. If I were paying someone to put a clutch in for me, then they had etter machine the fly wheel too.

MOst any auto parts stoe can have it done. But note they just charge you a few extra bucks and send it out. Let your fingers do the walking in the yellow pagesand get a few price quotes from shops and auto parts store.

Thanks for all the help.

I went to pick up my clutch kit from Advanced Auto Parts...
I opened up the box and the factory packaging was broken. I took a closer look at the everything... the alignment tool was used, the clutch had been installed.
I am so pissed off. They tried to sell me a used clutch kit. When I told them it was used, they told me it wasnt!!! I pointed out the markings from the screws where it had been mounted and the markings on the alignment tool and they still tried to say it was not a used part. Even the booklet that came with it had greesy fingerprint marks on it.

I just cant believe them!
I will never buy from there again!!!
