Okay WTF...
Now I have the MAP working, got it replaced at O'Reilley's turns out the one I bought was fault so I got my smooth idle again but I thought I fixed this problem with the new MAP but its back. Everytime I put my fricken clutch in at cruising speed my RPMS' jump to 2800-3000. It stays at the peak for about 3 seconds then begins to drop, what the hell gives, im about to tear off my clutch sensor near the pedal.

The "clutch sensor" is just a starter saftey switch.. doesn't interface with the ecu..
Maybe your IAC is getting old and isn't reacting as quickly as it used to.. maybe you have a vacuum leak and it's having trouble compensating for it.. ...?

IAC is ruled out, brand new and is functioning correctly.
The vacuum leak, I found one bad vacuum line and replaced it but I am still looking, I have checked and listened to all visible hoses the only two (or the may be the same) I havn't gotten around is one near the battery that seems to run under the car and another near the air filter that runs under.
Its weird, 10% of the time it won't do it but most of the time if I put the clutch in it will jump.

How's all of the major tuneup stuff? (So we don't hammer down on the obvious questions, like "is the timing okay" or "how's the dist cap/rotor" or anything else!

All brand new, cap, rotor, spark module, wires, plugs, coil, all the way down to the transmission fluid. Timing is set at 10 btc. Anyone know where those two or possibly that one vacuum line leads to?

Is this after being on the gas? If so, you're probably just pulling the excess air in the plenum.
Try this - drive along at 60mph or so, then just let off the gas. as you are starting to slow down, hit the clutch. Mine was doing that, and found out I had a leak at the BOV... so yeah, a vacuum leak, even a MINOR one, can cause it!

I don't know where it is on the 3.1's, but on my 2.8 I have a line going "under" the car on the driver's side. It goes to my

It's really just a vacuum can that keeps your power brakes and crap working just after you get on the gas hard. I had problems similar to yours when that line broke off at the fitting where it goes into the ball. i couldn't find that damn leak for months, then I figured out where the line went, fixed it and viola, no more problem.

Sorry....I just had to do that...
I hope this problem gets solved cause my buddy has an 89 Ford F-150 with a 300 cid I-6 and he's having the exact same problem. Pops the clutch and his idle hangs high for a while. When he disconnects the IAC, it goes back down. But his IAC is brand new. We replaced it and the problem still didnt go away. Thread Starter

Ok I took some time today to go check under the car and saw a few vacuum lines had some cracks and replaced just about everyone under the hood and I still get that surge when pushing down on the clutch.
Another thing that happens is when I start the car and start to back it or go forward in first the rpms will drop dramatically and either kill the car or they will jump back, it won't do it after the car has been running for ten minutes. What could this problem be?
