carbed 2.8 to 3.1 ?

hey whats up guys. i have a freind who has an 82 berlinetta and is doing a motor swap this weekend. he is changing his 2.8 to a 3.1 from a 91 firebird. he wants to still use his carb setup and take the fuel injection off the 3.1 . is there gonna be anyproblems with this. and what else will he half to do to change it out . i know the pully's on a 3.1 are diffrent than a 2.8.

any comments or tips would be grately appreciated thanx

the easiest thing to do would be to use all the pullies and everything off of the 2.8. i'm assuming it has the v-belt setup so, to avoid having to change all pullies, including ac compresor, P/S,... i would stick with the v-belt. the 2.8 carb setup should work ok on the 3.1 but if its all stock, you'll get more power if you switch to a better 2 barrel or even a small 4 barrel.

He is going to run into a few problems I belive.

The carb motors have the small rear main, and oil pan is sized for that. The oil pan is also supposibly different up front per the timing chain cover which he will need to use the v-belt cover. The cover is also supposibly different for the coolent flow? I have not dealt with this part. as all mine have been serpintine (sp?)

Keep the 3.1 heads!!!!

I imagine the stock carb will run the 3.1, however it will be restrictive and need to up to a 375-400cfm carb.

At 6,500 rpm with 100% VE a 3.1 can only flow 360cfm.
Try not to go any bigger than that.

He won't have a single problem at all.
That's a 1995 3.4 under my 1985 stuff.
Strip the 3.1 to long block.
Redress it as the 2.8 lying besides it.
No problems at all.
Everything fits just right.
Show him this pic if he's worried at all.
