fan switch. need help bad.
fan switch. need help bad.
im generally good with this stuff but im stumped. i do not have a sensor on the pass rear of the head. and i want to wire up a fan switch. the one on front drivers side head is for gauge. i started the car and unplugged every possible AC wire that i could find, and the fan didnt turn on. i found the middle relay on the drivers side to be the coolant fan switch relay, correct? i spliced the green wire into my switch, and the fan still didnt turn on. now. here is where im stumped... the fan...kicks on on a regular basis. it heats up to 233* or whatever, then the fan kicks on, ALL the time. so i know there is no problem with the system, im just having trouble finding a place to cut into it.
im gonna go from one end of the fuse, run it to the switch, then run it from the switch to the other end of the fuse with a fuseable link on there...however id really like to use a cold wire to turn on the fan if i can. i need help.

On my car & I believe most others,
as you said the fan kicks on with activation of AC system.
One detail you mentioned,
the factory fan set up is designed to come on/activate at 220* then shut down at 210*.
I watched my car on a "scope". I made sure I was there to see fan cycle on & off & notice temps (I have idiot light). My fan cycled on & off, twice, while I watched computer screen. Exact same temps as noted.
There have been others who have done a varible temp fan set up.

I recalled having answered this question in some detail recently, but only after having searched did I realize I had answered it to *you* over a month ago.. cripes

My personal preference on the fan switch is a simple ground setup for the already existant fan relay, which sits right next to the fuel pump relay. It actuates via ground from the fan switch.. using a T-tap, an additional switched ground can be added no problem.
Haynes listed colors for the relay are Tan/White, Dark Green/White, Red, Black/Red.. you would tap the ground switch into the Dark Green/White. Add ground, stock relay clicks, fan turns on. Turn switch off, engine temp hits 225-230, relay clicks, fan turns on. I rarely turn mine off on my V8.. plus, the location is much closer to where the switch would be run into the dash.

Did you pull the a/c sensor connector out from the a/c hard line on the passenger side main frame rail?
That works on a 2.8 ... maybe things changed for the 3.1?

Better yet,
A: You were grounding the switch, not supplying +12v, right?
B: You did test the switch with the car on, right? The fan relay does not actuate when the key is not in the "on" position.

na with the car running i tested the switch, no dice. fan does not come on with AC, when the car is on/running.
yes grounding the switch.
i unplugged the pressure switch, and the fan didnt go on.
however my battery did die on me recently and the place i got it from sold me a new battery and i took it home and tested it and it had 10 volts....f***ers.

Also, batteries do not always come fully charged.. that's kinda your responsibility.
